The last week of August was very tough. I was sick with worry about my family in Houston as well as friends and strangers whose lives were being torn apart by the days of rain and flooding. As September begins, we are watching the weather again with an eye on Florida, and Georgia where my sweet friends Sheila from Making the Most of Every Day and Michael Ann from Out and Back live. Praying somehow Irma miraculously dissipates before making land fall.
Your Turn
Tell me true, how was your August? On a scale of 1-10, what would you give it? What was one of your highlights for the month? Please share in a comment below. And then hop by to check out the August each of my blogging buddies enjoyed/endured/both? If you have a post to share, link-up with us below!
This laptop is acting nutty again. Remember when my spacebar wasn’t.working.and.I.was.typing.a.period.in.substitution.for.a.space? Well, got that issue fixed with a new keyboard, but now my O and G keys are sticking. You don’t realize how many ‘O’s’ you type until you can’t type them! Having to POUND on the O key in particular to get it to work. therwise my pst wuld lk like this.
Here’s to an calm, border-line boring September. I could use a few days to catch my breath. How ’bout you?
Hugs and kisses,
Em
Ooh, Leslie…
It sounds like you had a very stressful month buoyed by some lovely moments.
Glad you had some nice pool time…we really missed that this year! Mediocre weather and my knee issues got in the way. I at least had a nice float day with my girls, but no relaxing day with my Mr. Next year, I guess!
BUT…I know you are counting your blessings regarding your daughter’s accident… SO SCARY!
Good wishes to your Houston family, friends and all who are suffering there!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for your wishes for my family in Houston. Amazingly, they escaped without any damage to their home. I am so thankful they were spared. And that my sweet baby and her baby were safe in their wreck.
Hope your knee issues are about resolved. You have struggled with that long enough. Your physical therapy sounds more like torture. Hope it pays off in spades and you are soon even better than new!

I know what you mean about days when it goes by and you look back and think, what did i do? But I keep trying to remember that it’s okay to be like that!!
XOXO

I like that these Sentence a Day posts remind me of little tings i sometimes forget. And help me to relive some of the special times again!
Nikki
Oh my goodness! So glad they were not hurt in the wreck! So scary. And your family in Houston… wow. What devastation there. I am glad you had some relaxing moments in the pool and at dinner, because you had a rough month. Hugs.
🙂 gwingal
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Nikki. We are so thankful that my sister escaped the flooding in Houston and my daughter and granddaughter were safe after the wreck with the 18 wheeler. So while August was tough, it could have been so much worse. Thank you for coming by.
Natalie
What an emotional month August was for you, Leslie. I’m glad you had some fun time with your PC, daughter and granddaughter and your family is OK after Harvey and the scary car accident. Well done at the conference and great weeding job at the library, too! Thanks for organizing this fun SaD link-up. Wishing you a calm and more enjoyable September.
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
Wow, that is a rough month lady. Although it is good that you do get to see your girls so often! How far away do they live from you? For some reason I thought it was sort of far, but apparently not, since you seem to see them on the regular, which is great! Glad Lauren is okay, wow and 18 wheeler, crazy!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You asked how far away my girls live from me. While Brennyn is in Texas, too, she is about 600 miles away. Lauren was in Houston until last summer, and then she was 750 miles away. Lauren is now living in New Mexico and is only 3 1/2 hours away. So I see her much more often. Yay!!! But I miss my Brennyn and Cady. It is so hard being apart!!
Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond
Loved your month Leslie. Even though it was very busy you still had time to enjoy hubby and your grandbabies which certainly makes up for a busy time, doesn’t it? I’m loving the sentence-a-day so thanks for inviting me back in April. Can you believe I’ve been doing this for so long but isn’t it a great way to look back at your life? Have a wonderful September and I’m counting the days until October 1 when we fly off to Spain!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
We will be in Europe at the same time!! What are you packing? I assume the weather in Spain will be similar but probably warmer than Germany in October. No matter what I take, I always wish I had packed something else. I always feel like my clothes scream TOURIST.
Daenel
What a month! First and foremost, thank the Lord that your babies are OK. I can’t imagine the stress and everything that must have gone through all of you.
I think when groups are setting up presentations they like to switch it up on us midstream to keep us on our toes. LOL I had a two hour session scheduled that was supposed to be in-depth research, it turned out the instructor really only wanted the class to have a tour of the library and a basic rundown of the services the library provides. Oops!
I should throw a celebration day for The Hubs. He’d love that. Thank you for the idea.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for coming by. I am so thankful to God that He kept my babies safe in their wreck and my sister and her family safe in the flooding. We have much to be grateful for.
I think at school no one seems to know what a librarian does or should be doing. Including the administration. Now that I am subbing and traveling from one library to another, I am finding so many collections that haven’t been weeded in years. Old, dusty, irrelevant books that the kids won’t touch. I have been in my current library for not quite three weeks and have weeded close to 2000 books. We have a curriculum guide full of lessons that most of the librarians totally disregard. I get so frustrated. Everywhere I go, I beg the faculty to start asking their full-time librarian to start giving lessons, collaborating with them to support the curriculum. And yet over and over again, the librarians get away with turning out the lights and locking the library doors during the school day. Ugh. Anyway, all of this to say, I am like you…I try to give the teachers/kids more bang for their buck. And sometimes they didn’t even know that what I offer was available to them. Sad!

Hey girl!
I contacted you by email but never got added to the group emails for Sentence a Day! I linked up anyway! I hope I did it right!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey sugar, I am so sorry that I goofed in not sending you the email info about Sentence a Day. But glad you link up anyway. Hope you are writing your sentences for September and planning to continue joining us!

Your baby’s baby is as cute as a button. They had a very lucky escape from that truck. Love the idea of celebrating your relationship too – we’ve been together 28 years & I think we should be doing more of that, but you just get so lost in the every day. I love how you always have that big wide smile in your photos. Stay healthy & enjoy your September.
Tamara / My Retirement Project
OK, my heart dropped right along with yours when I read about the 18 wheeler incident. As a Nana that would through myself in front of an 18 wheeler for my granddaughter, as I know would you, there are simply no words. So here is a heartfelt virtual hug instead!
Your month sounded a bit stressful, but it appears your Prince came through in spades to lend you a hand and support. And I was very happy to read that you may be resolving your swimming pool issues. Fingers crossed!
We have family in both Houston and Miami, so yes, this has been a most difficult hurricane season for sure, even as a Californian from a non-Hurricane state.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hasn’t this hurricane business been just horrible? So, so sad. Hope your family has remained safe and sound and dry. My sister told me today about a little girl who went to school today to learn 8 of her 10 teachers had lost everything and almost all of the kids came to school in pajama bottoms and tees because they’ve lost everything, too. So sad. I wish I had won the Power Ball and could do something to help. Waiting for payday this week to finally be able to help the people I know and care about who have had their lives turned upside down.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for the sweet compliment about my plumpies…baby Lucia.
Absolutely plan a celebration for your hubs. A few years ago, I had a Hurray for Paul Day. I kidnapped him and took him to the mountains for a weekend. Planned the whole weekend down to the couple’s massage, champagne in the room. Balloons tied to his car and a card inviting him to come away with me. He loved it. I need to do that more often. PC is very precious to me!
What a sweet thing to say about my smile. I have a blessed life and love my family so much that smiles come naturally. Thank you for those sweet words.
Danielle
I love all the pool time you got in. Your backyard looks like quite the Oasis. Your last week of August was a tough one. Ugh. Hurricane season is so crazy and intense. My heart goes out to all those affected during such a tough time. So scary. I can’t wait until our first payday. It still feels so far away. I hope your September is quieter for you. I can’t wait to read what you have on your fall bucket list. Fall is in full force here in SK, so I am excited to create my list.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, so jealous that you are fully immersed in fall already. We are supposed to set a new record high tomorrow…98 degrees. But I am going to start my fall decorating anyway, darn it!
I signed up for Work Wear challenge tonight because my sister wanted to do it. Sure enjoyed your back-to-school looks. Keep ’em coming.
Debbie Harris
I do hope things have settled down for you Leslie, it sounds like a stressful thing me recently. Your pool looks and sounds divine and so relaxing to be able to float around. Enjoy your September 😊
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, I love my pool. We put a cover on it this weekend and opened it up today to swim. The cover had warmed the water to 90 degrees. Scrumptious. Thank you so much for coming by. Hope you have a wonderful September, too. Fall is the best.
Lindsay
Oh my gosh, Lauren is very lucky that she didn’t get it any worse from the 18-wheeler. WOW! Must’ve been scary.
I love that you were able to put together so many donations for Florida. That’s incredible and such a selfless act. I can’t believe how much suffering Houston and Florida are going through. I cannot even imagine living through something like that and living to tell about it.
I love all of your photos and your hubby’s hockey net in the garage is GENIUS.
Love reading your about page and getting to know you more/better as well.
Have a great weekend Leslie. 🙂

I feel like my sister was so fortunate to have escaped any damage from the flooding in Houston. Kind of felt right sending assistance to others who were less fortunate. Thank you for your kind words.
