Hello, dear ones!
Welcome to Sentence a Day 01.2018. If you are new to Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After, Sentence a Day is a monthly series where a number of bloggers share a review of our month written in one, often run-on sentence a day. Click on the month to read my December, November and October posts.
Here’s how the first month of 2018 went for me.
Sentence a Day, 01.2018
Wish I had written it here but I did tell PC that I had a strange feeling that someone I loved was going to get hurt early this year. Not seriously hurt but that feeling was a bit worrisome and haunting to me as 2018 began. Sadly, my feeling turned out to be prophetic.
Catching Up on Chores
- Hello, 2018, goodbye my babies…after we bundled the kids off for home, PC and I enjoyed a quiet day catching up on laundry, putting the house back together, soaking in the hot tub. 01.01.2018
- Loads and loads of laundry, mountains of ironing, piles of steaming…seems like I never get caught up. 01.02.2018
- Not only did I get the laundry finished, but the ironing and steaming, AND the house cleaned AND Skryped (Skype +scrapbooking) with my sister while making the cutest little lizard for a hiking page. 01.03.2018
- Two more pool contractors confirmed that our pool has problems, one of them is already repairing work on another Silver Springs’s pool and he shared their are 4 lawsuits already against Silver Springs, meaning we may not get a penny; on a happier note, drove to Albuquerque to see these two and their mommies. 01.04.2018
Five Girls Together on the Boom Boom
- Always have such high hopes for visits with my girls but once again, everyone is sick…how sad that it appears we make each other sick!…everyone but my Cadence and me, anyway. 01.05.2018
- Leisurely morning at Lauren’s before starting out on the 4 hour-ish drive home, enjoyed our first rosca de reyes or king’s bread on this Three King’s Day with Francisco explaining the tradition, hard to say goodbye to Lauren, Lucia and Franciso; Taco Tote for dinner, reading with my Cady Coo and a good hot tub soak with her and Brennyn before bed. 01.06.2018
- Outlet mall shopping but the racks at our Loft Outlet were so bare I was afraid they were closing – pleased to learn they are not, ran into a mall we hadn’t shopped in at least a year…was shocked to see how few shoppers were there, took Cady to Peter Piper Pizza (think Chuck E. Cheese) and Live PD reruns. 01.07.2018
- Had the BEST day with my Ft. Worth gals…mini-hike in the morning (Cady loved it), lunch at Chico’s Tacos (an acquired taste), playing the park with darling granddaughter, scrapbooking with same cutie pie, Bachelor (we all watched – PC too) and hot tub time before bed. 01.08.2018
- Up early to take my girls to the airport, grabbed a few groceries then came home to work on Wellness Wednesday goals blog post while washing, drying and folding laundry; promised estimates from the pool contractors on 01.04 but nothing, hired our lawyer 4 weeks ago and nothing from him either but on the bright side, my PC earned a very nice pay raise. 01.09.2018
Settling Back Into Routine
- Yay, me! (that isn’t the end of the sentence but deserves an exclamation mark)…I did my first Facebook Live video today…is it a video if it is live? (yeah, not the end of the sentence yet, either)…also put up the Christmas tree, cooked dinner, finished laundry, wrote a blog post, and worked on my wellness goals for the year. 01.10.2018
- For all I accomplished yesterday, I was quite worthless today…sneezing and coughy so indulged in a power nap, Subway sandwiches for dinner, and early bedtime. 01.11.2018
- This whole Weight Watchers thing is coming back to me with 3 point chicken salad for dinner tonight, spent the day tying up loose ends, writing letters and thank you notes, packing up Flat Stanley to go back to my nephew Jacob, quick clean of the house, quick workout at the gym. 01.12.2018
- Weigh in day…143.5…less than I have weighed in months, oh, yeah, baby!…so what did I do?…indulge because Saturday is my day of indulgence, after a workout at the gym. 01.13.2018
- Lazy morning followed by a run out to DSW to look for over-the-knee boots (PC wants me to get some and that certainly fits with my Wellness goals of spicing up the love life), 2.6 mile ‘difficult’ hike about Schaeffer Shuffle trail, soak in the hot tub and ordered boots online. 01.14.2018
- And I thought yesterday was lazy, ha!…we did little more than breathe before noon…Skryped with my sister, bike ride with my Prince, who cooked dinner=walked up to Subway, Bachelor and blog writing before bed. 01.15.2018
- My sister in Houston was home from school with a snow day (!) so we Skryped for several hours, this week’s bitter cold nights are making for great sleeping. 01.16.2018
Enjoying Fun Activities
- Opened my fashion haus in the morning to photograph my faux fur vest, then out the door for painting lessons only to discover lessons are canceled until next month, spent $60 on summer decor at Hobby Lobby, drove around shooting pictures for this week’s 52Frames assignment and then home for meatloaf and an episode of Peeky Blinders. 01.17.2018
- Another frosty morning for donning faux fur in which I cleaned house, ran errands and had a dental appointment, gym and pineapple pulled pork tacos for dinner. 01.18.2018
- Chilly temps kept us under the covers most of the morning, dressed for a hike, stopped for breakfast tacos at Taco Cabana, followed the Ron Coleman trail for a steep mountain climb that had both of us huffing and puffing, soaked our sore muscles in the hot tub when we got home, quiet evening. 01.19.2018
Ouch!
- Interesting developments: on my way to bed last night, I banged my left foot on the door frame and bruised it quite badly, possibly broke something then awoke to learn the government has shut down so PC is on holiday until the country’s budget issues are resolved; otherwise a quiet day. 01.20.2018
- Foot hurts which meant a very quiet day but that’s probably what I needed. 01.21.2018
- Foot is better…not really comfy in shoes yet, but on the mend…slept gloriously late after PC left to go sign his furlough papers but still accomplished quite a bit to include gym, cleaning the pool, folding laundry and cooking dinner….ate the last piece of homemade bread which was a particularly good loaf. 01.22.2018
- My word for 2018 is peace and yet this doubt and anxiety and nervousness creep into some days and peace eludes me. 01.23.2018
- How it helps to have a good day when I start it off with my quiet time, devotional and Miracle Morning. 01.24.2018
My Hero
- Stopped by the William Haddad WWII Memorial Park to have PC’s “Old Glory Memorial” (OGM) brick laid at the base of the 180 foot flagpole there which flies a United States flag 24 hours a day; I think my Prince was genuinely touched…merry Christmas, love. 01.25.2018
Ouch, Again
- Crazy day which started with a pleasant 4 mile walk with my former AP Suzie and ended in the ER with the diagnosis of a broken foot and possibly broken ankle, guess that’s why my foot has been hurting! 01.26.2018
- Having to lie around forced me to find new ways to entertain myself…installed Photoshop on my laptop and have begun learning to play with it…thank you, Joy at Wild Prairie Studio. 01.27.2018
- Woke up at 2:00 am to realize that PC and I were holding hands in our sleep, went back to sleep with a warm heart and a smile on my face. 01.27 1/2.2018
- These days of lying around with my foot in a boot are too quiet for my taste. 01.28.2018
- From 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, I was at Sports Medicine having the foot re-xrayed, reevaluated; no broken ankle and no surgery required, referral to a podiatrist and prescription for an orthopedic shoe, pizza to celebrate. 01.29.2018
On The Mend
- After my Miracle Morning, spent the day writing letters, blog posts, doing laundry and ironing, even went to the gym to do some arm weights and crunches…got home and the doctor called to say I am only to be on my feet long enough to walk to the bathroom, and have to keep the boot on even in the shower…ah oh. 01.30.2018
- First real day of behaving myself and staying off my foot except when drove over to pick up my new orthopedic shoe..thankfully, much lighter than the boot. 01.31.2018
So, that’s Sentence a Day, 01.2018. Frustrated that as we move into February, I have a bum foot. But thankful that I only have a bum foot. Not sure when I will be able to try on my over-the-knee boots for my prince. Haven’t felt like even opening the package to look at them. At least this new shoe is much more comfortable and manageable than the boot I was wearing. The Velcro on the boot was sticking to everything! It’s a wonder Purrsnickitty and Purrsimmony weren’t stuck to it!
And with all of this newfound time on my hands, I am afraid I will be inundating you with blog posts. But I hope you will find them fun.
Your Turn
On a scale of 1-10, what would you give your January? What was the highlight of your month? Did you do something new and exciting? Overall, my month was an 8. And I am looking forward to an even better February. If you have a Sentence a Day post to share, won’t you link-up with us?
The first days of this month, I have all kinds of posts planned. Hope you will run by tomorrow for an Air B&B review and Glossies Made Me Do It link-up with Lauren at Shooting Stars Mag. Next week we have a book review post for Kristen’s Book by Book series on Taz and Belly, a Wellness Wednesday post with Natalie at Natalie the Explorer and that same day, a Currently post with Anne in Residence. Good stuff. And better with you along!! Thank you for sharing some of you day with me.
Hugs and kisses,
Gail
You had a busy January- and bad luck regarding the foot injury! This is such a great blog format. I will definitely join in!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay!!! I would LOVE for you to join us. Sent you an email about it. No pressure, but even if you just write your sentences each day and don’t post them, it will be helpful to remember the great moments and realize that you made it through the not-so-great moments, too. Wishing you a much better February than you had in January. You sure rocked that lovely purple coat and silver skirt. So classy, my friend. Wish YOU would rub off on me!!
Laura
Looks like you had an awesome January, except for the foot of course. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
So glad to be doing this Sentence a Day post with you! Heading over to read about your January right now. I am not in pain with my foot unless I touch it! Ha! But I hate being confined to the bed and the couch. So NOT like me. I want to clean the house, go shopping, hiking and get my booty back in the gym. But this too shall pass.
Thanks, love!!

First I am wondering if you found some OTK boots yet?? This is probably the time to get some because they will all be going on sale. You always have such lovely outfits, Leslie…that fur scarf is so modern and gorgeous.
I can’t believe your foot….that’s so crazy. But I absolutely think you need to get decorating that boot—-leopard print? Floral? So many options…LOL!!
XOXO

Yes, I have some great – I hope – OTK boots but can’t even try them on now!! Waaaaa!!!! You are so sweet to say I have lovely outfits. That is such a huge, heart-warming compliment coming from someone who is the epitome of stylish and classy!!! I am tucking that in my heart for keeps!!
Ha!!! I love the idea of decorating my boot. See what I mean? I grumble about wearing it and you find a way to make it trendy. Going to add a leopard scarf today!! Thank you, sweet angel.
Danielle
Oh my word. You had quite a busy month. Booo to all your pool woes. What a crappy thing to have to deal with. And boo to the bum foot. I actually laughed out loud when you mentioned your cats sticking to the velcro on your boot. Hopefully the foot recovery goes well for you.
I give my month a 5/10. A bit stressful with Brett’s health being up in the air, but thankful for our medical system and doctors keeping an eye on him, and thankful for friends and family checking in with us.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Your month was tougher than mine. Our pool and my foot are minor compared to having a pretty seriously sick hubby. I am so glad that he is looking and feeling better. Hope he is home by now and you have begun fattening him up.
Glad to be able to make you laugh out loud. Laughter gets us through, huh? And friendship. I am here if you need a pal!
Debs
I’m not sure that shoe was what PC had in mind when he suggested some saucy footwear! Seriously though, ouch. Behave and do as the doctor says or you’ll never get to wear those OTK boots.
I like this idea of a sentence a day, I wonder if I would remember to do it? I start with good intentions, but if I knew I was supposed to be linking up with others maybe I’d be more inclined to keep it up.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ha!! I snorted with laughter at your comment. Thank you for that, sweets. I am pretty sure my shoe is NOT what PC had in mind for my Valentine’s Day footwear. You are so fun.
Please join us for Sentence a Day, the month is young. Get started. See if you like it and if not, then quit. But try for the whole month of February and create your post as a trial run. I am going to email YOU!! Want you to do this with us. Come on, girl!!
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
I found some great OTK boots at Target. Mostly a great month, minus the hurt foot, boo! I love that you get to visit your kids/grandkids so much, looks like you see them at least once a month. Also the skyping while doing crafts, BEST IDEA EVER!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
OTK at Target! Wow! These are from DSW and were on sale and then I had some kind of something to make them even more on sale! Just hopeful I can wear them before it is too hot to do so.
Thank you, Sarah, for the comment about seeing my girlsies and their girlsies. I love them, all four, so much. I wish we all lived in the same place so we could do lunch, run together, go to the park. But we do all of those things when we see each other, which is about four times a year. So blessed that we can be together that often. I pray my grands know me better than my girls knew my mom.
Isn’t Skype the best? I read bedtime stories, and dry tears, and scrapbook with Skype. Crazy how technology has come so far in my life time.
Nikki Gwin
Leslie, Leslie, Leslie. I am so glad to find out you watch the Batchelor! hahaha I am hooked on that idiotic show!
Oh I do want to be back in the 140’s again…. please share with me what you did! You will be my inspiration.
So sorry you have hurt yourself. Behave!
My favorite day? 27 1/2th. That is priceless.
🙂 gwingal
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay, for you! And for Bachelor. High five!! I know it is a silly addiction but harmless and so much better than drinking and drugs!
After a few weeks off my feet (foot), I will probably need diet tips. Have my best success with Weight Watchers. If I track and exercise, I always lose. I would like to lose about five pounds but really tone up. There’s a lot of toning that needs to be done. A lot.
Thank you for your sweet comment about day 27 1/2. I was just giddy when I woke up and discovered we were holding hands. I love my husband. So blessed.
Daenel T.
Hubba hubba to the boots! LOL
Your babies are the cutest. I know I’ve said that before but it should be repeated.
The fur collar? Yes, please.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I love your compliments about my babies. I love them so much and naturally think they are kind of cute, too. My daughters are half-Panamanian and they were always beautiful in my eyes. Green eyes and beautiful skin and curly hair.
Hoping I get to wear the boots or at least try them on and prissy-around in the house with them for a few minutes. Planned to wear them for our Valentine’s Day date.
I need to wear that fur again soon…it has been 70 here so I may have already missed my opportunity.
Would love to have you do these Sentence a Day posts with us!!
Natalie
Your January looked pretty good, Leslie, except for the foot injury. I really like how you put the photos in a slide show format. I haven’t found that option with my free Blogger template yet. Hope your foot will heal well and soon. Thanks for organizing the SaD link up for us. Have a great February!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you! I like the slide shows, too. I had a good media gallery widget but it pooped out on me and is no longer working correctly. I added this one, which I don’t like as well. And now all of my old galleries are all messed up because the old widget I used to add them isn’t working. Frustrating. Probably need to hire someone to help with that.
Foot is feeling better but I am trying to behave. Thank you!
Tamara / My Retirement Project
To my surprise, my January was a ’10’ due to unexpectedly fabulous weather, and oodles of time spent enjoying it outdoors.
Re: your granddaughters. Do you find yourself having a case of the doldrums after you leave them? I go through it each and every time, and it’s really rough. We are off to see our little one in a few days, and I am so excited, even as I know the doldrums await at departure . . . the price of adoring her/them so much I guess!
I am proud of you for buying OTK boots, because I’ve been a bit chicken about doing so over here, so once your foot mends I can’t wait to see you in them. They are going to look smashing on you I predict!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, your January was an absolute 10. I always enjoy reading about your life. Especially when there are no catastrophic issues with appliances.
I do experience let down or doldrums after being with my girls and their girls. And that is why I wish they were closer. Would so enjoy just having lunch together. Or a trip to the park. And then in a few days, a shopping trip to Target. I get so sad kissing the babies and their mommies goodbye. I always cry. Do you?
Ha!! Thank you for saying you are proud of me for getting the OTK boots. Now to get my ‘broke’ foot in them! Was hoping to wear them for Valentine’s Day and still might, if only for a moment!! Oh, I hope they do look smashing on me, so sweet of you to predict that. I am really uncomfy with the idea of wearing them…but you know, the things we do for love.
Tamara R / My Retirement Project
Yes, Leslie, I always cry. 😢
curlycraftymom
Ok, seriously… out of all of this I loved the whole OTK boot shopping to spice up the love life (but, sadly… you won’t be able to wear them for awhile) and the waking up and realizing you were holding hands with PC. So sweet.

Leslie Roberts Clingan
Awww, I better, better, better be able to wear these OTK boots at least for a few minutes for Valentine’s Day. It has been so warm that the window of time for wearing them is closing in a hurry. Even though that pesky rodent saw his shadow. The progressive date might be off, or at least pared down a bit. But I have other ideas that involve lying down…not that!!!…a massage.
I loved that we were holding hands, too. Hope it happens again. Now we fall asleep holding hands some night.
Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond
Well your month certainly had everything, Leslie! Sorry about your foot and hope you are back to 100% soon. Great job losing the weight and I love the photos of your in your faux fur and of course your gorgeous little ones. Here is to a healthier February for you! Enjoy!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay for a quick mend on the tootsie and a healthy February. I am afraid I am going to find the weight I lost if I can’t get back to exercising soon. And I am just sitting around wanting to eat!! Shoot me.
Em
Oh, no!!! So sorry to hear about your broken foot!
Those boots they give you—and having to wear them ALL the time—are a pain. But, they beat plaster, right!?
Hope you’re on the mend soon and can get into those OTKsa! Funny that when I mentioned at home that Jodie inspired me to get a pair, my Mr. said, “Yes, please.”
Done!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
The doctor has told me that the only walking I am to do is to the bathroom. WAAAAA! BOR-ING! I did get a shoe instead of the boot on Wednesday. Much more fashionable! Ha! And comfortable. They want me to even wear the darn thing in the shower.
I am going to get into those OTKs if only long enough to prance once around the house. Ha! You need to join me and get some, too. Come on! They are on sale right now and we can at least where them at home on Saturday nights. Tee hee!!
Come do Sentence a Day with us, Em. I miss your voice. Start your sentences today. The month is young. XO
Cindi
So sorry to hear about your foot. Feel better!
I’m not going to post anything for my Sentence-A-Day month of January.
I was mostly home in bed, sick with the flu. Very, very bad.
I mostly spent my month concentrating on getting better.
I had to get my nose cauterized because it was bleeding so profusely from the effects of the flu. UGH! (very, very painful!)
February starts a new month and I’m beginning it with much better health!
Take good care of your foot!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
My gravy! Glad to hear they cauterized your nose…well, let me rephrase that. Not glad that they cauterized your nose but glad it finally stopped bleeding. What a case of the flu you have had. Enjoyed the photos of your recent walk so hoping you are on the mend.
