Fashionistas, I am so glad you are here!
Linking-up today with Jill at Doused in Pink and Carrie at Curly, Crafty Mom for their Thursday Fashion Files collaboration. This is only the second time I have joined them but want to make a concerted effort to try to hook up with these gals once a month. Now that I am subbing again, I might have something more fashionable than workout wear to share (that rhymes!).
So, I started back to work this week and have two full weeks of work scheduled as a substitute librarian in an elementary school library. Actually, the kids don’t start school until this next week so right now I am just putting up bulletin boards and attending meetings in the librarian’s place. But I am getting dressed up and loving being back to school.
It has been over 100 degrees every day. The older schools in the El Paso Independent School District rely on evaporative coolers rather than refrigerated air conditioning. Along with our three digit temps we are also experiencing two digit humidity…very rare in far west Texas which means the evaporative coolers aren’t working. Nothing is evaporating=HOT!
Here are my back to school looks for the first week back.
I wore white on white the first day. Alison describes this look as hot but I was trying to be cool. Not cool as in hip and happenin’ but as in less than 98.6.
White curvy, skinny Loft jeans and H&M graphic tee paired with Vera Wang Simply Vera sandals. I felt comfortable, if not exactly cool, during seven hours of first-day-of-school meetings.
On Tuesday, there were more meetings.
Hmmm.
All of these meetings are helping me feel better about being retired.
But I am enjoying dressing up.
Wonder if there is a job where I can just get dressed up, show up for work and then get back in the car and come home.
Guess that might be called modeling.
Long sleeves seemed like a good idea at home in my refrigerated AC in the morning. Not so much that afternoon at school. My blouse is from Loft Outlet, and is very lightweight fabric but fabric all the same! Loft curvy jeans in peach. Mix No. 6 nude flats from DSW. Earrings from Charming Charlie’s.
I just love these little earrings. I bought them specifically to go with this blouse. Hard to see in the pic but they have a mother-of-pearl or opal look to them.
For Wednesday’s district librarians meeting, I wore lots of color.
And a had a little pattern-mixing going on, too.
My kimono was a gift from my BFF Sharon. Old Navy turquoise pocket tee, railroad striped skinny, curvy ankle jeans from Loft. Candie’s sandals and statement necklace both from Kohl’s.
In my life before challenges, I would have thought this outfit to be a bit busy.
Lots of color going on here, I know, and then there are florals mixed with stripes.
But now days I find myself gravitating toward the theory that busy=better!
Over the weekend I put together another kimono outfit. I just love the feminine softness of chiffon and lace. I like feeling (and hopefully looking) like a girl.
Ok, girl is a stretch.
Lace kimono from H&M, gold metallic striped tee, Loft. Loft relaxed skinny jeans. Metallic sandals from Target. Loren Hope gold chain bracelet and filigree gold earrings from Walmart.
I tried tying my kimono like my fashion friend and fellow blogger Karen at She Thought She Could because I can see where the tails of my kimono could really get in my way at school. In the past, I have been known to laminate parts of my clothing and cut off my jewelry with the paper cutter at work.
Here I am untying my tails then realizing that my fashion shoot is not over. PC is still snapping away.
Next week, with the babies back to school, I think I will wear a few dresses or skirts. I should have all of the bulletin boards put up by then. And we are expecting a cold front starting tomorrow, just in time for the weekend. Next week’s temps are going to be in the brisk low 90s.
Might get to break out a cardi!
Thanks for spending time with me today. Leave me a quick note below with what you are wearing!
Hugs and kisses,

A cold front hit St. Louis and it has been feeling like fall here! I cleaned my front porch today and it felt great outside. I never thought or heard of tying kimono tassels, but I should try that! I love, love, love the outfit you wore on Wednesday! I don’t know how you work so well in that heat, ugh!!! It makes me hot just reading about it! 😉

Oh, I am glad you liked my bright colored Wednesday outfit. I am really having fun mixing subtly patterned pants with floral tops. El Paso is the last place where fashion trends take hold so for now all of my compadres here think I am dressing more like a bag lady than a fashionista. I am anxious to replace my porch decorations with fall things but the temps have to come out of the 100s before I dare do that. Jealous that you guys are enjoying a cold snap!! Bundle up.

Love your outfits! I don’t know how you work where there is no real air conditioning! I was hot flashing just thinking about it! 😊

LOL! I have been fanning myself all week. But almost everyone on this campus where I am working is in the same boat with me. A lot of menopausal teachers!!
