Baby, it’s cold outside! El Pasoans don’t do winter…mostly because we don’t have to. But for the last three days, our daytime temps have hovered just above freezing. Then slipping into the low 20s at night. Yet no snow. In fact, more fluffy white flakes have fallen on my blog than have at my house. Without snow, winter’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
Here’s how I dressed to stay warm today as I ventured out for painting class at Hobby Lobby.
Faux Fur Vest
I’ve had my Target Mossimo fur vest for several years. Bought it as a trending piece on a Get Your Pretty On style challenge shopping list. But it just seemed crazy to wear fur on winter days past when I was running the AC in the car. In fact, I was going to begin my closet purge with this piece!
This morning, though, it was so cold that I dreaded leaving my warm bed to shower and dress for the day. So I pulled the covers up a little longer and continued blog reading. And that’s when I came across Whitney’s post at Whitney à la Mode and became inspired to give my fur vest a try.
Here are the pieces I paired with it.
Decided to go with layers in case temperatures warmed drastically in the afternoon. Started with an Old Navy beige and white striped, long-sleeve tee, pulling over it, a warm tweedy, Target Merona turtle-neck sweater.
Added a little sparkle with my glittery striped socks and some pearl and gold toned earrings that looked a little like icicles hanging from my ears. My old favorites – Loft relaxed boyfriend jeans – beckoned from the closet to finish up this outfit.
Aren’t those little ballet flats cute? Really wanted to wear them for the first time today. But my tootsies were almost numb with the cold. Decided my Columbia hiking booties were a more practical option.
Thought by posing in my ‘coastal’ blue guest bedroom, I might warm up a little before heading for painting class. But the thaw was fleeting.
Faux Fur Vest Street Style
Got to Hobby Lobby and painting class was canceled. Too cold to paint? I was so disappointed. The epitome of all dressed up and nowhere to go.
Just signed up to participate in 52Frames, a weekly photo challenge. Since I was warmly dressed, decided to take to the streets in search of photo ops for this week’s prompt, “leading lines”.
While it wasn’t what I had planned to do today, it was fun walking around downtown. And my faux fur vest kept me very warm. So, I am going to give it a reprieve from the giant closet purge penciled in for next week. In fact, I might just need a another faux fur vest! Here’s a faux fur fashion show of some of my favorite finds.
By clicking on the images in the slideshow and doing a little window shopping, you enable me to earn a few cents a click. Hope you’ll take a closer look at these cute pieces. I’m kind of liking the faux suede and shearling vests myself.
Your Turn
Have you tried the faux fur trend? If so, how have you styled your fur pieces? What are you wearing to stay warm this winter? I was really surprised at how snuggly warm I was in this outfit today. Didn’t even mind being outside, in the sunshine, that is.
Thank you for a sharing a moment of your day with me. Hope you will stop back by on Friday for a Title Talk book review. Until then, stay warm!
Hugs and kisses,
Em
You look fabulous! I loooove faux fur vests…I just can’t find one that doesn’t make me look like a linebacker.
Yours is purrrfect! Just the right length; so flattering. I actually had fur envy when I saw it on your Instagram post yesterday. I’m not giving up yet…there’s some in my future.
PS… want snow? I could send you some…you do know I live just outside of Buffalo, right? We have plenty this year 😬☃️❄️
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, I want your snow!!! But hold off til Sunday to send it…we might just get some of our own tomorrow. I’ll get back to you. By the way, I was born in Buffalo, in a snow storm on Easter Sunday morning!! At Millard Fillmore hospital and lived in Tonawanda. Small world, huh?
Loved your comment! A linebacker, huh? I felt something like a cave woman in my fur vest but it was warm and comfy enough to save it from the purge pile. Wore a faux fur scarf the next day and it has been given a reprieve, too. At this rate, nothing will get purged.
Thanks for making me smile, sweet friend. XO

Hooray! I love it! Now I need to take some inspiration from you and try a sweater under mine. Bonus points for layering a striped shirt under the sweater under the vest! And thank you so much for the shout-out. I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ha! Thank you, baby girl. I got the idea of wearing a sweater under my faux fur from Jodie at Jodie’s Touch of Style. She was layering jackets. Jodie is also an inspiration when it comes to pattern mixing.
I wore my faux fur scarf yesterday and it has escaped the purge. At this rate nothing will get purged and my closet will remain overstuffed! Thanks for being my fashion muse for the week.

Love the vest! I am going to Dallas in February and I sure hope their weather has straightened up by then. We have had enough of subzero temps and snow here in Central Indiana.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Dallas has had a pretty cold winter this year…my daughter is in Ft Worth. No snow but cold temps. By February, things should take an upturn, though. And whatever the case, it sure won’t be subzero with snow!! My daughter’s ex-husband’s family lives in Milan, Indiana. Not too far from the Kentucky border. Are you anywhere near there?
Thanks for the comment on the vest. I guess it is a keeper for another year. It sure was warm. I have seen lots of gals wearing vests with active wear. Couldn’t understand how a vest would keep them warm but now I get it!!

I have a very similar brown fur vest that I just love. I need to get it out more and actually wear it, I tend to wear it mostly for blog photos. I’m also a little afraid to wash it… Not sure if that will ruin it. I am so sorry your art class got canceled! I would have headed to Starbucks instead and gotten a toasty drink and read a book! You look lovely!

Ha! I should have gone to Starbucks…would have been cheaper than wandering around in Hobby Lobby…never cheap!
I broke out my faux fur scarf yesterday and accidentally got lotion on it. I had the same worry…how do you wash this fur? Pet shampoo? I guess if my fur gets too mangy I will know it’s time to toss it!
Loved your lacy tank yesterday. Hope warmer weather is on your horizon. XO
Danielle
Love this look on you. Well done. I have no jumped on the faux fur bandwagon unless you count the faux fur on the hood of my winter jacket or my mukluks.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sugar foot!! Are you guys managing to stay warm up there? We have a short reprieve today from cold and have planned a mountain hike, wanna come? We can take turns carrying Logan on our backs! Going to pack burritos and oranges for a mountainside snack.
Tomorrow we have a very slight chance for…SNOW! Which would be right on time because I have about three books I want to read on and scrapbooking and mosaic work to do.
I remember seeing the fur on your hood framing your pretty face in a photo. I think from the farm. With your crazy cold winters, I think you’d get a lot of warmth and wear from a few fun pieces. Lucia has a meow-meow coat (leopard). Even the babies are doing the faux fur thing.
Hope you guys enjoy a wonderful weekend. XO

I’ve missed your fashion haus! Those faux fur vests (or gilets as we call them here) are great at making outfits look glam. And warm! I dug mine out the other day and like you was going to get rid of it, but I’m hanging on to it.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, my, you made my day!! I always feel so silly doing fashion posts. You are so sweet to say you had missed my fashion haus. Maybe I will try to do a regular fashion post this year. I am trying so hard to get myself organized, so will pencil that in on my agenda. Thank you.
Glad your gilet escaped the purge pile, too. They are so warm! And it was kind of fun wearing it out. Yesterday I wore a faux fur scarf and felt about as glamorous as I’ve ever felt! Ha!! In acrylic hair. Now that says something. Not sure what!!!
Thank you for coming by, dear one. Stay warm! XO
Laura
I love my fur vest! You layered yours so well! I love the striped tee peeking out from the bottom of your sweater. I like to do that to add interest sometimes too.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Aww, thank you, Laura. This long sleeved tee is much longer than most of my others and I really like that about it. When I saw that it peeked out from the bottom of my sweater, I was happy, too. I’m always worried about tee shirts riding up in the back but this one stayed put! XO
Anne Green
I love your outfit and think I might need a fur vest in my closet! Stay warm, friend.

Hey sweet girl! Thank you. I really did enjoy wearing my silly fur vest. Would encourage you to try one since you guys have had a colder than usual winter! Get one on sale or cheap or thrifted or all three! And see what you think. Or baby steps…try a faux fur scarf. I wore mine the following day and loved it, too!! Thought sure I would purge both pieces. XO
So glad to hear from you! Still working?
amy
I love faux fur vests! Your’s is gorgeous. I did just get rid of my black fur vest because it was so thick I felt it added some unwanted pounds to my frame. I have a thinner brown one that I love because the back is made of yarn so I don’t look so heavy in it. I find longer length fur vests also help avoid the thick look too!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, wish my vest was a bit longer. One of the gals mentioned feeling like a line backer in the ones she’s tried. I feel a bit cave womanish. I think a happy medium would be a suede vest (dang, I had trouble spelling suede!) with a little fur or shearling cut longer like your sleeveless duster. LOVED that look on you!
