Good Thursday eve, my friends,
Although it’s Thursday, it’s Friday at our house because PC doesn’t have to work tomorrow. We have lots of plans this weekend but I also have lots of blogging to do! First off, today’s post – I was nominated twice for The Sunshine Blogger Award!
So touched to have Carrie at Curly, Crafty Mom and Laura at I Do deClaire, nominate me to participate in this Q&A fun. Thank you both! XO

- Thank the person who nominated you, and include a link back to their blog.
- Answer the questions given by the person who nominated you.
- Nominate other blogs and give questions for them to answer.
- Notify your nominees through social media or by commenting on their blog.
- List the rules and display a Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.
Carrie’s Questions
[source]
- Where are you going on vacation to this summer? If nowhere, where would your dream vacation be? I don’t think we are going anywhere this summer – BUMMER. Just out the backdoor and into our pool. My daughters asked us to go with them to Disney World but with PC’s job in limbo, we don’t need to spend that money. My dream vacation would be beach…beach anywhere…even Galveston. Just give me some sand, sun and sea.
- What is your favorite beverage (alcoholic, nonalcoholic or both!)? My fav nonalcoholic beverage would be flavored tea, I think. Like peach and raspberry teas. They quench my thirst about better than anything. My favorite alcoholic beverage…hmmm, I like a cold, cold beer…Shock Top or Blue Moon or some of our local brews. I love the taste of Rum Chata and Fireball Whisky but never drink that.
- Do you make a summer bucket list? Yes, I will be making one. It may not have much on it, though. Boo-hoo! But check out some of the bucket lists from summers past, here and here.
- Do you take a blogging break in the summer? Blog more, less, same? I am so all over the place that who knows! I don’t ever take intentional breaks from blogging but LIFE has a way of interrupting my best laid/written plans.
- Perfect/favorite summer date night? Dinner at a patio Mexican restaurant somewhere under the stars, then driving fast (PC driving, me passengering) in the convertible with the top down over the mountain and home.
- What are your favorite items to grab at the Farmers Market during the summer? Soap. Ha! I cannot get PC to eat veggies so I could buy them all day long at a Farmers Market and they would go untouched. He does shower and likes fragrant homemade soap, so that’s what I usually buy.
- If you could have an entire day to yourself, what would you do? I do have days to myself but even though I am ‘to myself’ all of the worries of LIFE tag along with me. I need a day to myself in a time warp or vacuum or on another planet where there is a beach. Then I would probably sleep late, read, ride my boogie board into the waves, take a nap, have a mani, pedi, massage and facial and drink some Rum Chata and Fireball.
Laura’s Questions
[source]
- What is your favorite self-indulgence? Probably taking a nap followed closely by buying clothes and shoes. I have too many of both but nothing terribly exorbitant. Still, how many blue tees does one need?
- Do you prefer dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate? Great question. Any or all, please. My favorite being milk chocolate but wouldn’t turn down dark or white.
- What is your favorite type of music to listen to? ’90’s country…Brooks and Dunn, Clint Black, The Judds.
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Right here. But would like to have the money to go to the beach when I liked.
- If you received $5,000 what is the first thing you would spend it on? Hmm, I would send a little treat to each of my daughters, probably money rather than objects. I would put a little in savings. Our patio furniture is in bad shape so I think I would replace it. Something aqua or blue to go with the pool tiles. Love this one. Or maybe this with the stools?
- What is the ultimate experience you would love to have as a result of your blog? I think knowing that something I shared helped someone or touched someone in a significant way. I don’t know how that would happen exactly but maybe someone who is feeling lost as they enter retirement might find some hopefulness in some of the posts I have shared about my own struggles.
- How long do you envision yourself blogging? Depends on the day…sometimes I think I need to quit – what am I doing this for? And then other times I remember that I am doing this for myself, to encourage me to write. So if I take a break or forget to post for a certain series, or my blog never amounts to anything more than an outlet for writing, it’s all ok.
- Who is another blogger you would love to meet in person? I am so shy and awkward that I would be really nervous to meet anyone. What would I wear? What would I talk about? I have developed a friendship with Carrie at Curly, Crafty Mom so would love to meet her, if I could be sure to come off sane and normal. And Dani at Family.Love.Inspiration. They feel like daughters to me and I am more comfortable around youngsters than gals my age. And you, sweet Laura!!
- What is one thing on your bucket list? Writing and publishing a children’s book. Although, I am losing steam and interest. Not sure it will ever happen.
- What is your favorite holiday and why? My favorite holiday is probably – huh, I started typing Thanksgiving and then Halloween popped into my head. Apparently, I don’t know. I love having family around for Thanksgiving but it is pretty sad and depressing when it is just the 2 of us. And Halloween is only fun if you dress up and act like a kid. My girls had some pretty clever Halloween costumes growing up – never a store bought outfit with a plastic mask. And I like being in costume, too!
My Nominees

I am nominating the 3 Ds – Dani at Family.Love.Inspiration, Dara at Not in Jersey and Deb at Deb’s World. These gals are so good to visit my blog, and I appreciate their sweet support. Pretty sure they will see they’ve been nominated by reading this post but if not, I will give them a holler.

In addition to my 3 blogging buddies, YOU are cordially invited to answer the Sunshine Blogger Award questions, too. Leave your answers in a comment below. Can’t wait to learn more about YOU!
Wishing everyone a quick Friday and a great kick-off to the weekend. What do you have going on?

Lovely to read! Congretulations!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, my friend!
Deb
Oh wow, is that my name I see up there! Thank you – I shall enjoy making a post around those questions.
You’ve come up with some great answers to the questions you were given – I now see your happy place as being on a beach somewhere, with the waves gently lapping on the shore, a bar or two of chocolate in a chiller bag keeping cool, an iced drink in one hand and a good book in the other. Followed of course, by a restorative nap in the sun and then a sunset dinner in a restaurant overlooking the sea with your PC!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
How beautifully you summed up my perfect day. You use such colorful language. Anxious to see your answers to the Sunshine questions.
Lysha
How fun! Loved this post. Congrats! You’ve got me thinking about a summer bucket list. And what would I do with $5,000…man that’s a hard one, but fun question to think about.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Isn’t $5K a nice amount to dream about? Just perfect to enable you to do something extra that you might otherwise have to pass on. Please, please come do a summer bucket list with us!! We will share on 06.21. If you would like to be a part and are not already receiving my emails with the link-up codes and graphics, please let me know so I can add you to the email group. mommyhon333@hotmail.com
Dara
Thanks for nominating me! Fun!
I’m sorry you don’t get to go anywhere this summer, but hope you make it to the beach! I loved your answer for what you’d want to experience thanks to your blog!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Anxious and excited to read your answers to the questions I posed for you as part of the Sunshine award. I think Q&A posts are received well on my blog and kind of fun to answer. Thank you for the sweet support you have given me.

Congrats Leslie!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thanks, Dee! Working on my answers to your interview questions today. Will get them to you.
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
I loved getting to know you a little more, Leslie! 🙂 I feel if we ever did meet, we would hit it off! I can be a little shy at first, but I think our personalities would blend nicely together and we’d have a hoot!! I am so excited about this Sunshine Award, because the person that nominated me asked who my dream collaborations would be and one of them I mentioned was Charming Charlie. Well, today in my Inbox, Charming Charlie themselves emailed me and said they somehow saw my Friday Five post and saw that working with them would be a dream to me and that they indeed wanted to work with me! Can you believe it?!!! I was giggling to myself silly! It is fun how this community of blogging is so great and how we all help each other out in even unknown ways! I hope you have a beautiful weekend and I will def. be joining you for that summer bucket list!

I think we would hit it off in real life, too. I am so so so proud that Charming Charlie has asked to work with you. A collab made in heaven. Congratulations!!

I enjoyed reading your answers, Leslie. I like what you would do with $5,000. Lawn furniture is so practical, but can be something you don’t want to spend money on, and the other things, of course! Regarding the questions you’ve posed, the one I will share is #9. I tried so hard to model my behavior on not being her. She was an unloving mother, still is.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, we need new patio furniture so badly. The legs on our existing pieces have rusted and we have them duck taped on!! Maybe I will find $5K somewhere so we can remedy that situation.
I am sorry to read that you had/have an unloving mother. That is so contrary and in such opposition to the word mother. I am sure you have taken your sad childhood, learned from what you mom did and didn’t do and have been the very best mom. XO
Nancy Dobbins
Great post and fun to read…and how nice to spread the wealth and nominate other bloggers in return.
Always great to visit you here!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I appreciate you coming by, Nancy. We need to do some kind of link-up together!!
Amy
That’s great that you and carrie have become such good friends. This is my favorite part of blogging: making friends around the world! We had to cut back on vacations too. We plan to go to Utah this fall, but other than that, mostly staycations. Too many projects around the house need to get done.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
In the summer, staycations can be easier than in the winter, I think. We have our (broken) pool that we can float in, and can grill out, eat on the patio. I am going to try to make it vacation-like for us. Hopefully the daughters and grands will visit, too. You have such a huge, gorgeous garden paradise to luxuriate in but I know it represents hours and hours and hours of work, too. It certainly is beautiful.

Hello Leslie. I enjoyed getting to know a little more about you through these answers. Happy to know a fellow chocolate-lover! Have a lovely weekend!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
High five on loving chocolate. I buy Hershey’s kisses and eat about 2 a day. And that does the trick to curb my choco-holic addiction!
Kellyann Rohr
This was fun to read! If you were coming to Disney with your girls this summer I would totally stalk you and meet you in person! I’m 40 minutes away!
These were really good questions. We don’t get to the Farmer’s Market very much but I am hoping to get there more this spring. I love buying the veggies and the plants – even though I tend to kill them!
xo,
Kellyann
Leslie Roberts Clingan
The poor plants you and I decide to adopt and promptly kill. I almost feel guilty buying plants at all. Poor dears.
Would LOVE to meet you in person and the thought of that has me wishing I could take out a loan to go to Disney with Brennyn. Someday maybe.
ShootingStarsMag
I don’t know that I’m going anywhere this summer either, though a weekend trip would be really nice. Probably about all I can afford. My favorite holiday is definitely Halloween. I love it! And I think it would be amazing for you to publish a children’s book. You can do it!!!

Leslie Roberts Clingan
Maybe you and your sister can tag team and share expenses and do a few fun little weekend trips? You are so close to so many fun things. Another trip to King’s Island? Or to watch the Reds lose at Great American? My SIL loves to go to Mariemont and stay at the inn there. Or a B&B. Have you ever done that? Someday, when we have a few extra minutes in Ohio, I want to make that happen. I love walking with her through the shops in Troy, Ohio, too.
Danielle Park
Awe thanks friend! Those are hard questions. I am going to have to do some thinking.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Take your time on answering the Sunshine questions. I am excited to read your answers, though, and get to know you better. Can’t wait to live vicariously through your glamping adventures this summer.
Laura
Well congratulations on 2 nominations! I love that this award has been going around to all my favorite bloggers! It’s fun to see their answers and get to know them even better. And I love milk chocolate the best, too!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
This Sunshine award was great fun. I don’t have a lot of close friends in real life but feel a kinship with some pretty great bloggers. Thank you so much for nominating me!!
