Fashionistas, so glad you are here!
Today I am seeing red. And if you scroll down just a bit, you will be, too. I have very intentionally begun adding more red to my ‘wardrobe’. I use that term loosely for the clothes in my closet. A wardrobe sounds intentional. My clothing is not terribly so. But the addition of red has been!
Several posts back, perhaps even the last time I opened “My Fashion Haus”, I shared two looks and ask your opinion about which looked best on me. Remember? Here’s the post for a quick review. While I tend to migrate toward earth tones, and subdued color, almost everyone preferred the red outfit on me!
That revelation has me adding more red, brighter colors in general, to my closet. My OOTD for church and dinner out last Saturday is an example. Have a look.
Seeing Red
In an early summer trip to Loft, my daughter Brennyn scored some sensational off-the-shoulder and cold shoulder tops on sale.
I ran straight over to our Loft after seeing her bounty in pictures from the dressing room. But left my store empty-handed and disappointed. Decided to try online instead and that’s where I met up with this little red cutie.
So many things I love about this top. Soft, drapey fabric, interesting back details, and it’s NO IRON!! Might be all I wear til I wear it out. Maybe I should have bought two (or ten?) of these. You can buy one or ten, too, here.
Raw Hems and Ballet Shoes
I added the top to a new pair of white raw hem crop jeans from Loft. For this outfit, I wound up rolling the cuff so that the hem hit higher on my calf. That meant the raw hem wasn’t evident when I had them on. But here’s the reason for rolling the cuff..
…these red shoes. Wish I could take the credit for finding these at Target but the credit goes to my sweet friend Jodie. She featured a similarly snappy pair of shoes on her blog but they were out of my price range. I mentioned that in a comment and Jodie shopped around online until she found a couple of inexpensive options for this blogger on a budget.
Of course, I wanted to highlight the ankle ties so had to roll my raw hem jeans up a notch to do so.
Felt like such a ballerina. Or dancer of some sort. You know what they say about wearing red. That might or might not be why I have subconsciously steered away from it. As a child, I couldn’t stand under the streetlight in our yard at night, either. If you get my drift.
Trying to get my cuffs and laces even made PC crazy and me crazier. I kept checking them in my reflection in every window we passed.
Here’s the whole ensemble – how’s that for sounding intentional – on a flat lay.
Loft top and jeans, Mossimo Supply Co. shoes and pearl necklace and bracelet from Target.
Saturday Night Out
As I write this, it occurs to me that maybe some of you will argue that this isn’t exactly an appropriate outfit for church. In all honesty, I was a little worried myself. But our Saturday night service appeals to a more casual church-goer, decidedly less conservative. When it comes down to it, I am just baring my shoulders and a lot of neck. A lot of 59-year-old neck, at that. Maybe that would make this top inappropriate for me anywhere?
BUT I wore it. Felt all dressed up and even almost trendy. Pretty sure God was just glad I showed up, bare neck, shoulders and all.
OOTD on unmistakenably unflat me.
Can you tell I like seeing red?
Your Turn
I have often said that I didn’t start blogging to make money (good thing!). We would certainly starve to death. Occasionally, on “My Fashion Haus” posts, you will see a kind of online shopping slideshow of pieces similar to the clothes I am featuring. By clicking on a photo, readers are taken to the site where that item is sold. And for each click, I receive a penny or two (truly a penny or two). PC has no plans for giving up his day job! And I think we have to reach $100 before we even receive a pay out. I am up to a whopping $16.16. Just wanted to explain the ins and outs of the program before sharing this digital fashion show.
My bank account and I thank you for any clicks!
So, tell me true…are you seeing red in your future? Are you comfortable wearing bold colors? Have you embraced the off-the-shoulder and cold shoulder looks? How about the raw hem denim or lace ballet flats? This entire outfit pushed the envelope right out of the mailbox for me! But I felt fashionable and trendy. And that’s a good thing when you are 59, fast approaching 60.
Thank you, fashionistas and friends, for joining me in “My Fashion Haus”. I am linking-up with Carrie and Jill and their fashionable friends for Thursday Fashion Files and with Jennie for Fabulous Friday.
Run by to see what they are wearing today!
Hugs and kisses,
Gail
I love that outfit! Really great! And red does look good on you. I bought a couple of red items recently after a long hiatus. I’m trying to get a new job so red gives me confidence! Aftet 9 months of hunting and no joy, it must be worth a try.

Wishing you well on your job search! I am so torn about trying to find a job and not really wanting to work full time. Working as a substitute librarian has been a great experience but I push myself to do more than is really required of a sub. And it really pays very little. But I enjoy the work. Have a couple of applications out there for other positions, if I get called to interview, maybe I need to have something professional in red.
Good luck, sweet lady. Keep me posted on how things go!

Such a cute top! I love it! Yes, I love red and other bold colors and don’t have a problem wearing them. I’m not a fan of print mixing or bold prints though.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am just beginning to try a little print mixing. Even bought the granddaughters some birthday outfits with subtle pattern mixing. But almost always lean toward soft colors. Need to keep pushing myself to try things outside of my comfort zone.

OH my gosh, You are too cute. I love those shoes, they would look awful on me but they look great on you! I need to jump on the OTS trend, haven’t found anything that strikes me, but soon, I hope!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, try the OTS trend. Loft had a lot of cute pieces online but not in my store. I think you would look adorable in one, maybe in something white to show off your pretty coloring.

I love your look Leslie and you are really Sizzling! I’ve started wearing more colour since I retired my corporate wear black and grey. Colour gives you such a lift in not only your look, but your mood. Don’t knock the 590almost 60, I’m there next month and can’t wait!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Wow, don’t think I’ve ever been called sizzling! Love it, thank you!! You are so right about color giving your mood a lift. I felt good in that red top. Need to keep pushing myself to try bolder colors. You wear 59 so well. Hope I can be as graceful about my 60th birthday.
Jill
This is such a chic look! That top is darling and I love the red lace up flats! They look amazing contrasted with the white jeans! You look fabulous!

Thank you, Jill. I need to buy some more red tops so I can get a lot of wear out of my red lace up flats!

Leslie, Leslie, Leslie!!! You look absolutely amazing for church, errands or just parading around the house!!! I’m so glad you’ve started including red into your wardrobe because it’s gorgeous on you!! And that top??? Just spectacular!! In fact, I might need to check your ID. I’m not sure you’re really the age you’re claiming to be!!! (And one of the reasons I say that, is because this font is so darn small! With my aging eyes, I can hardly see it…haha)

Jodie, you always make me laugh. Thank you for this thoughtful comment. Now that I have these fabulous red flats, a lot like YOURS, I need to buy some more red pieces to wear with them. Maybe a red dress???!!!!

Our Saturday evening church is pretty casual, too!! I think you look adorable in this red top and those red lace up flats are so cute! I just clicked on your items. I need to learn how to display the images instead of just the text linked. Something I can research when I have a spare moment (when is that?).

Do you guys go to the Saturday evening service? I like that so much better because we make it date night and then we can sleep a little later on Sunday. Thank you for the sweet compliments on my red outfit. Those flats are so comfy! Now I need more red pieces to wear with them. Or maybe navy or black! Holler if you want directions to making the images on Shop Style. That’s one little trick I know!
Andrea@WellnessNotes
I absolutely LOVE this outfit, Leslie! Red is indeed a fabulous color for you! And the top looks so nice with the white pants. The lace-up flats are fabulous, too! Are they comfortable?
P.S.: Before I forget, I’ll participate in the Sentence a Day update. Thanks for all the work you are doing keeping it going and growing! You are amazing!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey love! My red lace up flats are COMFY! Woo hoo! I wear shoes, comfy or not, but these are cuties and comfy, the total package.
So glad you are enjoying Sentence a Day. And I am pleased that our group keeps growing. Wish I could take credit for it, but all I am doing is sending out reminder emails. Thank you for all the support and kind words. You warmed my heart.
Jennie
Goodness you look wonderful! I just love Everything about this fabulous look. The top is a gorgeous piece and looks wonderful with your white jeans. The red lace up flats are so colorful and fun! I may need to have these, too. 🙂 Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!
