Oy vay, girls, today’s prompt was tough-toughy-tough for me.
Leggings and a scarf.
WHAT?
I thought last week’s plaid was pushing me out of my comfort zone!
And it was.
Here’s how all of The Blended Blog contributors styled that plaid.
I wish I had thought outside the box plaid and gone with checks or gingham instead.
Really, really didn’t feel good in this outfit.
Which brings us to this week.
I was so nervous about trying to put this look together that I considered calling in sick. But I love, love, love Katie from The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life and she created today’s prompt so I really wanted to support her…even more than I dreaded putting on leggings.
So, Katie, this one’s for YOU.
For inspiration, I ‘googled’ leggings and a scarf outfits. Most of the images that came up were gals in leggings and boots, sweaters and scarves, including these familiar friends.
From left to right, my friend Alison from Get Your Pretty On, my pal Laura from I do deClaire and my bud Jo-Lynne from JoLynneShane. I feel fortunate to call these fashionistas my friends. Wearing those leggings and leopard scarves well, ladies.
And then I saw a few images among my Google search results that looked like this one:
[source]
A peppy little American Girl all dolled up (pardon the pun) in leggings, ice skates, mittens, hat and scarf.
Nothing I saw inspired me for a spring leggings and scarf look.
That is, until I looked again at Alison’s outfit above. I realized I have a blue blouse very similar to hers. And black leggings. The scarf was the easy part. I have too many scarves. The problem there would be narrowing it to one.
So after the gym and supper tonight, when I was feeling pretty much exhausted, I hauled my behind upstairs to the bedroom I call my ‘fashion haus’ and started putting this prompt together. I should probably add I work well or at least better under pressure.
Here’s the end result.
New York and Company blue pop-over blouse, Hue gray leggings (the black ones come later, or so I thought!), Limelight pink pumps from Rack Room Shoes, and scarf from Charming Charlie.
Then came the moment of truth when I had to try this outfit on.
It’s all fun and games til someone loses an eye…or goes blind, in the case of this post.
Only took about 30 minutes of constant picture-taking to get one photo I felt semi-comfortable sharing with you.
That’ll ‘learn’ me to wait til the last minute…at least you’d think it would.
Stay tuned next week to see.
I actually changed leggings mid-stream from the gray Hue to One 5 One navy leggings from SteinMart. I was shooting for black but our house is so dark that the blue looked black all the way through the picture taking and then I realized, ooops, my pants are blue. But believe you me, I wasn’t the least bit interested in taking new pictures with my black leggings on.
So, I did it! Might not be pretty, but it is behind me and I lived to tell about it.
Hope you will hop over to The Blended Blog to check out the leggings and scarf look of our fearless leader for this week’s prompt, Katie, put together. And then be sure to run by the blogs of the other gals to see their interpretations. I bet they can probably tell what color their leggings are, whatcha bet?
Then join us by posting your leggings and scarf look here, through the InLinkz link-up or by posting a picture of your interpretation to your favorite social media outlet using the tag #theblendedblogstyle.
Andrea Nine
Bright, fun and pretty as a picture!! You look like you should be going to a ladies luncheon, just gorgeous and Spring fresh!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Andrea. I am so shy and anti-social that the thought of a luncheon gives me a panic attack but I do love the idea that this look would work if I ever find myself in a group of social ladies. I am about as close to the stereotypical reclusive librarian as they come. Right down to the cats! XO
Jo-Lynne Shane
You look really cute! You did a great job. Love the color combo. xo
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, YOU!!! YOU are so sweet to come by and leave me a comment. You could have said anything and I would still have been in pig-heaven. But for you – my fashion idol – to give me props is one of the BEST things that has happened in a long while. Just think you are something special, friend. Thank you so much for coming by!!! XO
Nicole
I love this look Lesley! The heels with the leggings was a great idea, and love how bright and colorful you are:)
Leslie Roberts Clingan
How sweet, Nicole. I really, really wanted to go with matchy-matchy blue shoes. Took a real effort to try the pink. So glad it worked.
Deena
I really love it and I love the narrative that goes with it! You look awesome.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. When you, who writes with such voice and personality, compliments me on my writing, my heart sings. Truly. Thank you!
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
OH my goodness, you are too cute! I think this looks great on you. I love that these style prompts are getting us out of our comfort zone! That blue on you looks great, and those pink pumps, they are calling my name!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, indeed, this outfit is T-totally out of my comfort zone. I had forgotten my pink shoes that I just HAD TO HAVE until I got desperate to find something to wear for this prompt. Need to remember them again soon. Thank you, love.
Shaunacey
I had a hard time with this one too but I think your outfit is perfect, the colors are great and the SHOES!!!
Simply Shaunacey
Leslie Roberts Clingan
The little girls at school seemed quite taken with my pink heels. My feet…not so much. Thank you, Shaunacey!
PC
Hot mama 😉
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, hot papa!
Christy
You have such a great sense of humor Leslie. Your outfit looks great!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
That is one of the nicest compliments I have never heard. I come from a family with a strong sense of humor but I am a librarian and that says it all. I am dry toast. No butter. No jelly. You really brought a smile to my heart with your sweet words.
Whitney @ Whitney a la mode
You ended up with SUCH a great look! I have a hard time making leggings look anything but casual…but this is an outfit I would totally go out to dinner in! I’m impressed!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Wow, thank you! I wore this strictly from the guest bedroom that is my fashion haus, down the hall to our master bedroom where I promptly took it off. PC asked when I would be wearing it again. Not sure that will happen, but your sweet comment has given me confidence!!
Mary
I love that cobalt blue blouse!I am pretty sure I have that same one in 2 other colors (I love New York and Co!!) I also love the hot pink pumps paired with it!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey, Mary! Welcome!!! Thank you for taking the time to run by and then to leave a comment. I need to wear this blouse more often. Do you wear yours a lot? I forget about it, and yet it is forgiving across my hips and tummy, and washes well and hardly needs to be ironed. What’s not to love. I should make it my uniform. Thank you so much for your sweet words. Hope you will come again.
Lana
I love this color on you, and your legs look ten miles long. You nailed it – so pretty!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Just the angle of the reflection of my legs in my Kirkland’s skinny mirror that makes them look long. I wish I could be the way appear in that mirror. Or better yet, I wish I could just keep eating the way I do, and everyone could see me like I look in that mirror! Thank you, Lana!!
Andrea@WellnessNotes
I really like this look! Very pretty scarf! One I would be very tempted to pick up if I came across it (which is a really bad idea since I have way too many scarves…).
And your posts are always so fun to read! Thank you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I have waaaaay too many scarves, too, Andrea. And I am really uncomfortable adding that bulk to my already bulky “girls”. But we do what we have to do in the name of fashion. Ha!
You are so sweet to say that my posts are fun. I like to have fun but never considered myself funny, just a big old goof ball. So glad you are coming by.
Carrie
This is such a good look on you, Leslie! Perfect hot pink shoes! Looking like a hot mama…I’m agreeing with PC here.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ha! I had no idea PC stops by my blog until that comment. Thank you for agreeing with him. Thank you, PC, for commenting.
Jill
This is such a pretty look on you! I love the color combo and those pink heels!
Jill
Doused In Pink
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Jill. The pink heels kind of push the envelope for me but I am proud of myself for trying them.
Laura
You are way too hard on yourself! I love the pretty blue and scarf together and you look great in the leggings!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Laura, but my skinny mirror takes little imperfections and makes them skinnier.
Katie
Awww…Leslie I just love you!! Thank you for supporting me!! And seriously woman!! What the heck were you worried about??? This is one HOTTTTTTT Look!! It’s perfect!! xoxxox
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Awww, Katie. Making me blush over here. I really struggle with what is age-body appropriate for an almost 60 year old. Thank you for giving me a boost of confidence and encouraging this old dog to try a new trick. XO
Alison @ Puppies & Pretties
I think you look pretty darn good Leslie! I’ve also been digging your fancy flat lays lately!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Alison! I am digging the flat lay outs, too. Now to get a better camera!
