Sweet friends,
Today’s post is a new one for me. Linking-up with Kristin at Taz&Belly for the “Daily Dime”; 10 photos that document an ordinary day in my life. Because sometimes ordinary days are the best.
I have worked quite a bit this school year. Then traveled half the month of October. So when November rolled around, I decided to enjoy some time at home. Turned down another long-term substitute librarian job in favor of hosting my brother and sister-in-law in our home for a few days. And coordinating the long overdue repair work on our pool, along with the painting of the exterior of our home, and the cleaning of our HVAC system for the approaching winter months. Yesterday, I had 9 contractors working at my house at one time.
What’s a Typical Day?
Feels like none of my days are the same. So to say these 10 photos illustrate a typical Thursday isn’t necessarily accurate. You could come back next Thursday and it would probably look a whole lot different. But that seems to be the nature of this chapter of my life. Still working to figure out what my new normal should be. And how that new normal should look.
In the meantime, here’s how today panned out.
8:00 a.m.
Devotional and “Miracle Morning”. I am currently (re-)reading Jesus Calling and then completing two-pages from Gratitude: 101 Prayers and Praises by my friend Mary Clewley. This week, I have also been participating in “Suzanne’s Confidence Cafe” hosted online by UK life coach Suzanne Mountain. This Facebook ‘cafe’ is a place to pop in and get a boost to your confidence and mindset. So my morning ritual has been a little more involved.
Glad to be able to return to my “Miracle Morning” routine. Read more about it here.
9:00 a.m.
Worked on my mosaic while listening to “Suzanne’s Confidence Cafe” video for today. I started this mosaic shortly after I retired 4 years ago. Took several classes with a local artist in her gallery but then she closed up shop. And I set my mosaic aside to gather dust when I began subbing. Working on things like this, my scrapbooking and my cross-stitching bring me joy mixed with apprehension. Always afraid I am going to mess things up. FEAR is one of the topics Suzanne has been addressing. Funny how things like that work out.
Ok, here we go again with the smeary, blurry phone photos. What the heck? This phone is two weeks old for pity sake. I know I am technology-challenged but this is ridiculous.
10:00 a.m.
Setting up Yahoo fantasy football teams for tonight’s game. Checking, writing, returning emails. Working on my collage for tomorrow’s Forever Fierce “Follow Friday” campaign on Instagram. My brother had surgery this morning, too, so I was texting with him in pre-op then waiting for word once he was in recovery.
Although it looks like I have a pine cone growing out of the left side of my head, it is actually just the fringe on a throw pillow. And although I look like I am about 6 months pregnant, I assure you I am not.
11:30 a.m.
Making a list and checking it twice for Thanksgiving groceries. We will be at my daughter Lauren’s house for the holiday but I will be helping with the cooking. Decided to go through the pantry to see what groceries I had before making a list of things for Lauren to buy. So here’s a question for you. Bought this ham for Easter but we didn’t wind up cooking it. It has been frozen since I bought it. Can we cook it for Thanksgiving (disregarding the tag that says use by 5.2017) or do we throw it ($16) away?
Wound up checking the expiration dates on almost everything in the pantry. Found a few real prizes…long expired jars of beef and turkey gravy. Not sure why I even bought them back in 2014!
12:20 p.m.
Lunch. Leftovers. Asian salad and wild rice with cranberries and walnuts. La Croix water. Love that stuff. Consulting my agenda while I eat.
1:00 p.m.
Checking on their progress, while the painters are out to lunch. We chose a deeper, richer brownish-mahogany color for the house and a buttery cream for the trim. I like.
1:30 p.m.
Brushing the pool. In this gorgeous 75 degree weather, I love being outside. Just sat a moment on the patio to soak up some sun afterward.
2:30 p.m.
Ironing followed by a hearty round of steaming. Anyone else feel buried under piles of ironing? I can get it all caught up and somehow, the next week have a whole pile of ironing again. How does that work? I am about ready to start wearing all polyester…starting with those neat elastic waist, pull-on pants.
What in the world is up with this phone? Looks like I am ironing underwater or in a dream or underwater in a dream. Make that nightmare!
4:00 p.m.
Running. Even though it might be mistaken for walking fast. Or not moving at all…I do realize the display shows big, fat zeroes. In training (ha!) for a 5K run this Saturday. Cold Turkey Trot. Emphasis on trot.
6:30 p.m.
Food truck circus. Underwater, of course.
That expression on my face is dismay at the poor quality of this picture. I mean, really Samsung Galaxy 7???
I had street tacos. More like park tacos. Which were really loaded sweet potato fries. And PC had BBQ brisket and pineapple cole slaw. Really good.
8:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Watched football and wrote on this post until bedtime. One of my fantasy football teams is in first place. The other one…not so much.
Your Turn
What would your “Daily Dime” look like? Or Daily Baker’s Dozen, as I think I have shared a few more than 1o photos here. But they were all such great quality. How could I leave any of them out. Inquiring minds need to see what underwater ironing looks like.
None of my days look the same. Do yours? Today is already vastly different than yesterday except I am still the ringmaster at this crazy, three-ring circus I call home.
Please take a moment to check out Kristen’s “Daily Dime“, and make some new friends through this link party. Their photos are crystal clear, just so you know.
This was fun. At least for me. Hope you found it fun, too. Kristen and the gals keep the link-up open for days. So grab your camera and document a day in your life. Thank you for spending a bit of your day over here with me. My ironing board is calling me so I need to get busy. Wishing you a wrinkle-free weekend.
P.S. Almost forgot, the Christmas cash giveaway comes to a close next week. Click here and scroll to the bottom to enter!! Buenas suerte!
Hugs and kisses,
Danielle
Bahahaha omg I seriously giggles throughout. Your underwater photos are fantastic.
Cook the ham. I would. Lol. If you get sick don’t blame me 😉
9 contractors? That’s a LOT of people working. I like the paint colour. Looks great. And I’m envious of the warmer temperature.
Off to find a pic of underwater ironing. I swear I’ve seen one.

Aww, you are so good to come by! Thanks for the compliment on my underwater photography. All of that water and I remained dry!!! Geez, what is wrong with this phone!
I am going to cook the ham. But don’t tell PC. I won’t send you the bill for the Milk of Magnesia if we need it.
The contractors have taken a lunch break and it is finally quiet here for a bit. Purrsimmony and I are enjoying a snuggle on the loveseat in my loft. Tried to send you a pic on Instagram. Not sure if you will get it. I like the color on the house, too. Ready to just be home alone without an entourage of workers.
Gotta see that underwater ironing pic. Ha!!

I’m the wrong person to ask about how long to keep foods – I am such a stickler for ‘use by’ dates. My husband is far less cautious and seems to survive unscathed on yoghurts that have got pushed to the back of the fridge and forgotten about but I’m not one to take the risk! I think that if the ham was one of those joints you cook yourself, it should be ok for 6 months but that’s just a guess.
I can’t see you as a person who would resort to polyester elasticated waist trousers! So best get back to that extreme underwater ironing. (Do you think maybe you’ve got a greasy fingerprint on the camera lens? But hey, soft focus photography can be very flattering sometimes!)

Figured out the issue with my phone camera! The protective cover is on over the lens. Ha! And I had it put on by a cell phone repair store. Taking it back today to be adjusted.
Thinking I will cook up that ham and see what happens. Sure hate to throw it out!

Hmm! I wonder what is going on with the quality of your phone pictures. That would drive me crazy! I wonder if you could go into the store and ask or is it something simple like a smudge on your camera lens?! Wow! 9 contractors in your house at once! Crazy! I love to clean out my pantry and get rid of expired stuff, makes me so happy. That EC planner I see in your photo makes me happy too! I just ordered my 2018 one! I am not sure about the ham, but I would THINK it’d be ok?!!

My daughter figured out the phone camera issues. I had a screen protector installed on it and they installed the wrong one! Ha! It is covering half the selfie camera lens. So that is what is going on. I just went up to the store that installed the screen protector and they are ordering another one for my phone. I think they put on the wrong one and hoped I wouldn’t notice.
Painters are still working on our house. Finishing up their second week! I am ready to just have the house back to normal.
I need to get my Erin Condren planner ordered for the coming year. I am already trying to keep track of 2018 appointments in a 2017 planner. Ugh.

It was fun to follow along with you! You always crack me up!
