Hey lovies and lovelies!
Belatedly linking up with my bud Kristen from Taz and Belly for her January Daily Dime series post. You know how I have pledged to better schedule blog posts in my agenda? Then to remember to open my agenda to see what posts I need to be working on? Just didn’t have this one penciled in. But better late than never, right?
Daily Dime, 01.2018
The idea behind the Daily Dime series is to document a regular ole day in our lives using 10 photos. I picked Friday, January 19, for my day. PC was off and we had a hike planned. Thought that would make for a more interesting post than a day of laundry and toilet scrubbing. You’re welcome! Here’s my Daily Dime, 01.2018…
All Morning
We were lazy butts!! Woke up about 8:00 but it was too cold to venture from our warm bed. I dashed to our bedroom door to let our kitties in and crawled right back under the covers.
Apparently, it was also too cold to take a clear photo. I must have been shivering!
Purrsimmony getting warm next to mommy.
Brunch
PC wanted Taco Cabana burritos for breakfast but by the time we got out of bed, into the shower and out of the house, it was more like lunch time. We ordered four Weight Watcher friendly burritos to go. Keeping with my wellness goals shared on Wellness Wednesday, here.
Ate 2 on our way to the park for our hike.
Ron Coleman Trail
I picked the trail we hiked. Had visited the trail head when Brennyn and Cady visited earlier in the month. And had hiked it once before years ago. Wanted to return in order to hike up to one of several caves on the trail.
The sun was shining and the car thermometer read 61 degrees when we started the hike.
Can you see our shadows from the trail falling on the cactus below? I felt like Mr. Frodo in LOTR.
By the time we made it up to the first cave of 3, the temperature had dropped and the wind had picked up. Though you’d never know by looking at my hair in the picture below.
Don’t tell PC, but I was already to head back down and we had only gone a half mile. I really don’t do cold or wind. But we kept muscling up the mountain. Knowing we had another Taco Cabana burrito in our back pack kept me going. That and the gorgeous view spread before us from the east side of the trail.
At the .64 mile mark, our noses were running, our ears were freezing and the smell of the pico de gallo wafting from my pack was making me weak. We had lunch. Yes, 45 minutes after breakfast.
Thank goodness, about this time 3 college-aged girls ambled up the mountain. I mentioned that we were fortifying ourselves for the climb (or tumble) back down the trail. One of them was an experienced hiker. She suggested we climb a little higher then walk across the ridge in order to reach a less steep and rocky way down. I could have kissed her.
Yes, that’s a (sock) monkey on our back (pack). My smile is so broad because we are heading back down!! If I’m not mistaken, PC and the monkey are smiling, too.
This was the view from the west side of the trail. See, we were up high! And the winds were really whipping!
By the time we were back to earth, we had hiked 1.56 miles in a little less than 2 hours. With breaks for breathing and eating, and in my case, whining.
Soak in the Hot Tubby-Wubs
To stave off the inevitable soreness that follows our hikes these days, we partook in a preventative hot tub soak before dinner.
Dinner
Tomato soup and gorilla cheese sandwiches. No, that’s not a typo. My girls and I always called them gorilla cheese. Now PC does, too.
Homemade Bread
Renewed our family yeast starter in order to make bread on Saturday. Added whole wheat flour this time just to jazz things up.
Ouch!
On the way to bed, I was wrestling to get my leg through my pajama bottoms. When my foot finally popped through the other side, it hit the bathroom door frame with quite a bit of force. I know it sounds like my pajamas must be very tight for me to struggle so in getting them on. But just know they stretch out nicely.
Anyway, my foot instantly swelled and began bruising. And I have been hobbling since. Not sure if I have broken a toe or maybe a bone in my foot. But I do know we won’t be hiking for a few days.
Feeling like Frodo again as I look at this photo of my hobbit feet. Oh, dear. I apologize. I should keep socks on at all times.
Math has never been my strong suit but I do realize this might be less a Daily Dime and more a baker’s dozen of photos + 1. But I knew you were curious about my foot. Couldn’t leave you in suspense.
Your Turn
How would your Daily Dime, 01.2018 look? The next Daily Dime or Baker’s Dozen link-up will be Wednesday, 02.21.2018. You could join us! Between now and then I will learn to count. And will get a pedicure. I promise. Thanks for bearing with me.
Hugs and kisses,
Debs
I love this idea of sharing ‘a day in the life’! Especially when I see a post from somewhere in the world which is SO different to where I live. That was some height you climbed to. Even more impressive when you learn there was a less steep way to get there and you went the hard way!
We had snow again yesterday – they had forecast sleet for an hour or so but we woke up to the first snowflakes and it kept right on until mid afternoon. The wind was freezing – if I’d taken a picture of me on the dog walk you would have seen walking boots, jeans, thick sweaters, a long padded coat, gloves, wooly hat and a hood and I was still ‘mentioning’ that my face was frozen. Coco was, naturally, totally unaware of the change in conditions and was raring to go for her normal long Sunday dog walk!

I think my dogs were somehow even more energized and excited to walk when it was snowing! Crazy things! I love, love, love the snow but really struggle with a bitter cold wind. Sounds like you were well dressed for the weather but somehow the cold seems to creep in despite our best efforts.
Hope you will think about joining for the next Daily Dime. We will post on 2.21. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Sometimes it is fun to just see what a regular ole Monday looks like in the UK! And vice versa. Would love to see pictures of your home and family.
El Paso is completely different from anywhere else I have lived. Came to El Paso from Panama in Central America where we lived in a lush rainforest near the Caribbean Ocean! I miss the green but not the humidity, mosquitoes, and sand fleas. El Paso is will be home for the rest of my days, I feel pretty certain.

Started my 10 this morning. Should I share with you privately tonight?
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Did you take your 10 pictures? Share them with me so I can share them in a post!!
Cindi
Leslie,
Your post was hysterical! You have such a good sense of humor.
Especially the part of eating lunch 45 minutes after having breakfast!
Sounds just like me. So fun.
Thanks for sharing your day.
You and your husband are great sports!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Cindi. I used to get frustrated with my mom because we would be clearing the breakfast table and she would be asking what’s for lunch. But now I get it. When you are in charge of fixing lunch or coming up with something for everyone else to eat, you want to get that planned. I am turning into my mom but that’s a pretty great thing.
PC and I do have a lot of fun together. I am so thankful I found him.
Thanks for your sweet comment.
Lysha
Love this post. So sorry for you toe! I always have this Daily Dime post on my list, but I never remember until about 10am to start. So it never happens and most of my days aren’t nearly as exciting as this post.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, come join for February’s Daily Dime. Mark you calendar 2.21. We don’t have a terribly exciting life either but sometimes it is fun to just see each other’s day-to-day. I like seeing other bloggers’ homes and families. Whatever you would share would be a fun read!

Gorilla cheese, how did this name originate? Lol! I think Brian and I have gone hiking once and we went to lunch and had wine slushies before we started. Oops! Haha! I don’t know if I could have hiked that long with the smell of the taco in my backpack! A soak in the hot tub sounds lovely afterwards!

I don’t know how in the world we came up with gorilla cheese. But my girls and I have our own language. Kind of like twinspeak. It was a little worrisome to PC at first but he uses a lot of the words now! And I am big on nicknames. Everyone has a nickname or two. My Lauren has always been Buffy and my Brennyn has always been Pinky or NeeNee.
I love the idea of wine slushies before a hike (and after and during, for that matter). This trail was pretty scary with the wind blowing so it was probably a good thing I hadn’t indulged in anything more than a Diet Coke. But what fun that would be. Going to remember that. I want to start carrying our hiking backpack with us each time, too. The last time we did this hike, we were really unprepared for the rain that came up and the drop in temperatures. If one of us were to get hurt, and the other have to go for help, we should have some supplies with us just in case. Now I sound like my mother!!!
Michael Ann
Oh my gosh, Leslie! I just love reading your stories! Hooray for hiking, easier ways down, and lunch 45 minutes after breakfast! I heartily approve all of that AND gorilla cheese sandwiches. I am totally stealing that name from you! I also approve soaks in hot tubs but NOT hurt toesies! So lay off hurting yourself, please, ma’am! Maybe I’ll do this link up next month! Looks like fun!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Michael Ann. You say the sweetest things.
Shhh, don’t tell PC but I slept til 10 today. I think it was good for my foot. It was less painful and I was able to walk better today. I really want to be 100% for the 5K on Saturday.
Hope you will start saying gorilla cheese and then think of my girlsies and me when you do. We really have our own language of sorts which has been kind of odd to PC. But he is beginning to speak it, too! Although he would never admit it.
Please join us for this link up. Your beautiful hiking and camping photos would be perfect! Would love to see a Daily Dime of one of your trips camping.

This post is so fun. I hope your toes aren’t broken. I did something to my toes and haven’t been able to flex them in almost a year.
Gorilla Cheese. LOLOLOLOL Isn’t it funny how families have their own little jokes and quirks? I always tell my kids, y’all think we’re crazy? Just wait until you mix the crazy that you’ve grown up with with the crazy that someone else grew up with… Your kids are going to be rolling their eyes and talking about you too. LOL
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, my gravy!! So sorry you’ve had trouble with your toes for so long. The big toe on my right foot has been troublesome since I was diagnosed with Lyme disease…not sure what the connection is. Hoping that whatever I have done to the left foot is minor and temporary.
You are SO RIGHT about quirks that each family has. Oh, boy. My daughter married into a family where the women all showered together. And her FIL walked around in underwear all the time. She is now divorced!! I know we have our little oddities but bathing together isn’t one of them.
Thanks for stopping by. Your comments make me smile.
Laura
Hi Leslie! So sorry about your resent accident with your pajamas, but at least you got all your walking/hiking in early that day! Love the reference to “gorilla sandwiches.”
