Morning glories,
What am I going to do with me? Sent out an email to everyone and their dog about the link-ups for September. Penciled them all into my agenda and then didn’t open it when we started this new month. So, I am starting out the month behind the eight ball. Whatever does that mean anyway?
Joining Anne in Residence and all the gals for Currently, 09.2018. Anne asked us to share what we are currently buying, reading, recording, sharing and starting. Here are my responses.
Currently, 09.2018
Buying
…my groceries on line with Walmart’s grocery pick-up service. Have you used it yet? If you haven’t tried it, check out the post I wrote about it, here. You might remember that I also wrote about my grocery shopping strategies in a post last year. I do my shopping once a month at the commissary and then pick up things as necessary from Walmart. But my Prince Charming is working in North Carolina most of this month so I am holding off on the big grocery shopping until he gets home. Trying to lose 6 pounds while he’s gone so preparing a Walmart order for healthy stuff!
Reading
…just finished The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn with my 2018 Summer Virtual Book Club. Talk about an ending coming out of left field! Also read Passing by Nella Larsen, which took me back to my elementary school days when schools in Memphis were first being desegregated. And laughed my way through The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. So good. Check out my review, here.
Currently reading Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and listening to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer. Listening my way through Everyday Holy by Melanie Shankle, reviewed here, and gleaning so much from It’s Never Too Late to Begin Again by Julia Cameron. Can’t remember ever juggling this many books at one time!
Our book club has read 4 books this summer and we are getting ready to select our next read and to move this summer book club into the fall! Would love to have you join our group!
Recording
…we record “Bachelor/ette”, “Live PD” and “90 Day Fiancé” weekly. That’s some quality television there, girls. Then last night I was recorded, unbeknownst to me, by my daughter Brennyn while I was reading to my granddaughter Cadence. We are reading Lulu and the Brontosaurus by Judith Viorst, which I just happened to review a few weeks ago.
Sharing
…a lot of the books my summer book club has read with my 91 year-old mom and her friends at the retirement community where she lives. My mom has macular degeneration and is probably legally blind. She has always been an avid reader but struggles to read these days because she has to hold a magnifying glass and the book at the same time. Takes a lot of the fun out of it. I have been ordering large print copies for my mom, whenever available, of the books the club is reading. She and her BFF Claire and a couple of their bridge playing buddies are passing the books around.
Starting
…as soon as I finish this post, I will be starting work on a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle I bought to keep me busy while my PC is out of town. Love working on puzzles. At my mom’s retirement community, they keep jigsaw puzzles out on the tables in the common areas for residents to work. Going to try that around here but a little bit worried about Purrsimmony and Purrsnickitty trying to help work the puzzle while I am asleep.

I love jigsaw puzzles! I’ve been doing Walmart grocery pickup too, my 2nd one is going to be ready this morning!

Yay for Walmart grocery pick up!! So glad you are giving it a-go. I am saving money by using that rather than wandering the aisles and buying one of everything I see.

Apparently, my kitties do puzzles, too! Every time I work on mine, both kitties lie down right on top of the pieces. So much help!

I’ve yet to do a grocery pick-up, but I keep meaning to! It would be so handy. And I really want to lose some weight in the next couple months too so I’m definitely trying to find healthier options. Sigh. Gotta get back on the wagon, if you will.
I love that your mom and her friends have their own little book club of sorts going on! Fun!
I own The Rosie Project but still need to read it. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Girl, you have to try that Walmart grocery pickup. Got to. If nothing else, have your mom put some things in the virtual car, then you and your sister can add to it and see if you aren’t all three in LOVE with this service.
Oh, please, please read or listen to The Rosie Project. My sister is reading it at my insistence but I listened to it on Audible and it was so funny. So good. I am quirky soul and could absolutely relate to the main character’s odd personality. I think you will love it. Like a breath of fresh air.

Guernsey is one of my all-time favorite books! You’ll have to let me know what you think when you’re done. And the new movie version on Netflix is wonderful, too!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am almost finished with Guernsey. Looking forward to watching the movie on Netflix this weekend. The book has been such a delight. Love that it is one of your all-time favs. I think it is going to be in my top 10, too.

I don’t know how you are reading so many books at once! I think I would get all the characters and plots mixed up! That video is so cute! My mother-in-law loves to read stories to my oldest daughter on facetime and she absolutely loves it! Facetime is such a wonderful way for families to connect when they may be far apart!

I never dreamed I would live to see the likes of Skype and FaceTime, but so thrilled that I have. It allows me to be a part of my grands’ lives between visits. So important to me. What a dear grandmother Claire has to read to her. Precious memory making.
