Dear ones,
Working on this post from my daughter Brennyn’s guest bedroom alongside my granddaughter Cadence, who is writing a story entitled “Emma and Her Sister and the Fairy Princess Journey”. Makes my autumn bucket list post look rather dull in comparison. Ha!
Thank you for taking a moment today to read my second autumn bucket list update. Click here to read my original autumn bucket list post and here to read my first update in October. Those items marked off my list below were highlighted in October’s progress report. Hope you will also follow the links at the end of this post to check out the progress of all the gals joining me for this series.
Autumn Bucket List Update
Fall Travel
- Whirlwind trip to Germany.
- A week supporting my favorite baseball player for Senior Men’s World Series in Phoenix.
Sprinkling Autumn About
- Decorate the inside of the house for fall. Yes, which you can see here. But I also decorated my front door area (what do you call that?) and my mantel. And have failed to take photos. I am so sorry. Will take those as soon as I get home and update this post. Promise you’ll come back?
- Decorate around the outside of the house for fall. I guess the decorating outside my front door actually belongs here. Those pictures are coming. Had to move everything out of the way of the painters but will move it back and get those pictures uploaded.
Working On Me
- Work back to running 3 miles (given my leg holds out) and run 5K. We have fallen off and been run over by the exercise bandwagon. Pretty much just eating its dust these days. I did pull out my “Running a 5K” training schedule about two weeks ago to try to prepare for Rudolph’s Turkey Trot at Ft. Bliss. My time this year was about 4 minutes slower than last year but I’ll take it.
Running a 5k
- Hike twice. So far, only one hike this fall. But it was a grand one up to Dripping Springs. Once a mountainside resort 17 miles from Las Cruces, New Mexico, the hotel then became a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients where it is said that questionable methods of treatment were carried out.
- Create several fall looks from fall and work wear challenges. Pending. Really need to get after this seeing as winter will soon be upon us.
- Appointment for lowlights to blend away gray.
- Have monthly manicures without tips or gel polish.
Flavors of Fall
- Sample something pumpkiny twice a month. Have really enjoyed fulfilling this item on my list. Soup, pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin coffee, a pumpkin pretzel, pumpkin ravioli.
- UTEP football game. Cancelled. UTEP has had a terrible season. Couldn’t see paying money to go see them lose on a grand scale.
- Food trucks. Yes!!! Such fun. And we did this in the nick of time because the food truck circus won’t be returning to our northeast El Paso location at William Haddad World War II Memorial Park until spring. There were about 8 food trucks: a sushi, a couple of street tacos, a grilled cheese sandwich, Korean BBQ and more. I had loaded sweet potato fries and PC had a pulled pork sandwich.
- Try two new restaurants. Pending. El Paso’s first Saltgrass opened recently and we tried to eat there but 40 minutes was longer than we were willing to wait for a table.
As the Temps Dip
- Create Christmas garland for stairs. Bought the stuff, waiting for Santa’s elves to do their magic. Or to stay home long enough to do it myself. I am looking at you week after Thanksgiving.
- Fire in the fire pit. Pending. Bought the ingredients for s’mores…step in the right direction toward realizing this one.
Spirit of Gratitude
- Pay it forward. Sorta. Bought books for a child. And clothes for a homeless brother and sister. Students from my last sub assignment for whom my sweet sister purchased backpacks. But neither of those acts of kindness really count for pay it forward. So this is pending.
- Donate food for Thanksgiving. Pending.
Spic-n-Span
- Have house painted, carpets cleaned and scrub house from top to bottom. I cleaned house pretty well before the Ohio Clingans came to visit. But not a top to bottom spring cleaning. The exterior of the house is being painted as I type. And will have the carpets cleaned very shortly. Can we go ahead and mark this one off?
Good thing there is still another month left to the season so I can tie-up the loose ends on this autumn bucket list. Most of the activities that are pending should be fairly easy to accomplish. Hope you will be cheering me on until we meet again for my final update.

I just love this link up! Suppose we may do one for Christmas???
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You know what, sugar? We are doing a winter bucket list for 12.21. Hope you will join us for that. You can make it totally Christmas if you like but I guess by then it will be awfully close to the holidays. Or maybe we should do a mini Christmas bucket list? Just for December?? Let me email and see if anyone likes that idea.
Tamara / My Retirement Project
Oh Leslie, my hubby and I have done that hike to Dripping Springs in the Organ Mountains! We took a six week RV trip through Arizona and New Mexico a few years back, and that was our first New Mexico stop. It’s gorgeous back in there, and the history of the whole recovery center back in there is so interesting!
Love that you are currently with at least one of your little granddaughters – mine arrives today and I am soooo excited to see her! Also love all the fun pumpkin foods you enjoyed and shared here!
Have a wonderful holiday weekend with lots of cuddles and love from your family!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
How interesting that you have been to Dripping Springs, too. We had been once before but somehow didn’t meander back far enough to actually see where the old hotel had been. Glad we decided to take our Ohio Clingans up there!
I am sure you are treasuring this precious time with your granddaughter. I enjoyed three all-too-quick days with Cady in Ft. Worth and head to Albuquerque later today to see Lucia. She has been very sick and is just beginning to turn the corner toward health. I will be glad to hold that angel and give her mommy and daddy a little break.
Will be anxious to read about your Thanksgiving. Enjoy your run, and your family.
Big hugs!

You certainly are a live wire Leslie and I always enjoy your posts. Good for you with the running. It can be hard to get back into it but I’m sure you will. I like the idea of trying different ‘looks’ for the season. Perhaps another link up? I know you comment on making a SAD a gratitude but not sure if others would be interested – it might be a fun twist. We don’t decorate in Australia half as much as you do in the US so I’m enjoying all the Fall Decorations. You are having an awesome Fall and the best part for me was your first paragraph about writing the post while your granddaughter was writing a story. Priceless. xx

I have had a busy, awesome fall. Heading 300 miles up the road to Albuquerque today to be with my youngest daughter and her family for the Thanksgiving festivities tomorrow.
Cady’s story is really adorable. Thank you for mentioning it. She worked on it everyday that I was there. So proud of her.
Have a restful weekend, friend. Thank you for always being the supportive and sweet gal you are.
Sheila DelCharco
You are making such good progress! Way to go!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Sheila. Haven’t done a clothes/style?/fashion? post in a long time so need to do that and cross off just a few more items and my list will be 100% fulfilled.

I really want to do food trucks again, but probably too cold now!! Bummer! The food looks so good in your photos! I really love the idea of trying two new restaurants, I may have to steal that idea! I have been feeling a little burned out on my running lately, not sure what to do to get out of the funk.

I am not sure why our food trucks are packing it up for the winter. I still eat during the winter. How ’bout you?
You have run so hard and so long, I am sure you just need a little break from it. Maybe its a good time to try something else? Biking? Spinning? Barre? I loved spinning class at a former gym and it was such a workout. I even became certified to teach spinning but never did it. And now my current gym (much cheaper) doesn’t offer any classes.
I really want to build up to swimming as an exercise this spring. Have had a backache since I did the 5K on Saturday so thinking maybe it is too jarring for this 60 year old body.
Enjoy your holiday with those you love most.
Natalie
You’ve done very well with your list, Leslie, considering you were away to Germany and Phoenix. I’m impressed that you follow a training routine for your 5K. Happy Thanksgiving to you from Canada (ours was in October)!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Looking forward to eating to my heart’s content tomorrow and then getting back to the gym routine and running next week. Hope to be able to complete my bucket list over the next week before we start thinking about all things winter holiday related.
Michael Ann
You’ve been a busy lady! I never did put out many autumn decorations, but I really liked the few I did use! I’m looking forward to decorating for Christmas now. Hooray for hikes, food trucks, and time with family! Happy Thanksgiving!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I feel like I’ve been busy! I am tired. Have had a suitcase out for a month now. I take out the dirty clothes and put in clean ones for the next trip. Our jaunt up to Albuquerque today will be the fourth trip in a six weeks. Looking forward to loving on my baby and her baby. Then looking forward to being home again.
Enjoy your holiday, dear one. Hope you will have your son home with you.
Cindi
Aren’t pumpkin ravioli divine? who’d a thunk?
Looks like you got a lot of things accomplished.
Good for you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Cindi! The pumpkin ravioli was truly delicious. Wish PC liked pumpkin like I do, we would eat a whole lot more of it around here.
