Good Saturday Evening, Girlsies!
I am linking up today with Alison at Get Your Pretty On and a whole host of other gals.
Can you guess how I am feeling?
Here’s a little hint for you…IF you can read Natalie Wood’s lips.
Yup, I feel pretty. Oh, so PRETTY!
Well, not so pretty right this minute.
In fact, right now I feel downright dowdy and dumpy.
(I have on mid-calf length sweats/pirate pants, a white tank top and an orange pull over, no makeup and I haven’t brushed my hair in hours)
But on the day I played dress up with my daughter Lauren at Curls and Cardigans for this photo shoot, wearing this elephant outfit, I did feel pretty!
I actually put this little ensemble together waaaaaay back in March. I assembled the pieces on my white, foam core board, and snapped pictures out on my balcony and then put everything away back in the closet.
Fast forward to April, and I packed these pieces when I went to the Texas Library Conference but because we were mid-Style Me Spring 2015 challenge and this wasn’t exactly challenge-wear, I didn’t even put this outfit on. At least not until I got to Lauren’s house after the conference. That Saturday night, while Francisco was at on call at the hospital, she and I played dress up.
This outfit was one of two I wore for my first, official fashion shoot with all of Lauren’s great picture-taking equipment. She has this cool backdrop that looks like a white brick wall but is really just a big piece of heavy-duty plastic that provides a kind of stage for her photographs. She has it clipped to a tension curtain rod and hangs it in front of the door to her guest bathroom. Part of the plastic forms a floor where she stands and the rest goes up behind her for a background.
She also has a nice camera which I promptly knocked off the bathroom counter right before we started taking pictures. The fall caused the lens to jam but we fiddled with it very gingerly and managed to work the lens free. (A couple weeks later and the day before Lauren and Francisco left for their Parisian wedding anniversary vacation, the lens gave up the ghost completely. Gee, thanks, MOM!)
Lauren’s tripod is really cute. Kind of bendable so that she can put it in almost any position for picture-taking.
A picture of me taking a picture of Lauren taking a picture. Nice lens that I broke, huh?
Here I am warming up for my photo shoot.
Funny how nervous I got, having my picture taken with a real camera with a backdrop and good lighting. I felt like my feet were stuck to the ground. But after a couple sips of wine, and a little coaxing/coaching from Lauren, I loosened up, a bit.
Here’s the rundown on my outfit. Old Navy boyfriend sweater, slub tee from Target, Loft curvy, skinny floral jeans, Merona sandals from Target, gold hoops from Charming Charlie’s. I put together two different necklaces with my outfit in the first pictures I took at home. The white tear-drop shaped necklace is from Charming Charlie’s. The small rhinestone necklace is Loft. When I packed for TLA, I forgot to pack either necklace so borrowed this belly-dancer-looking necklace from Lauren and probably liked it best of all. It is probably from Charming Charlie’s, too.
Then, before my photographer knew what hit her, I was feeling my punchy, crazy-mama-self…acting goofy and cutting up.
SCARY!
And not so pretty!
So as not to leave you with that image in your head, here are some pictures of Lauren’s photo shoot. She even has a remote control so that she can snap the pictures herself. Great set-up.
And that’s a wrap.
First photo shoot.
Check.
Hugs and kisses,
Sharon

Hey. Cathy!!! So glad to have you aboard my personal corner of crazy! Thank you for taking time to say hello. I can tell by your great email address that we are going to be good friends… I assume that the ‘scrap’ represents scrap-booking? or scrap-as in leftover-food ? I love both, so either way, we are bound to be buddies. Where are you traveling to in Texas? Hope you enjoy your time in the Lone Star state, have safe travels and please come back to let me know how your trip was. Thank you, sweets!

Love this and love seeing the behind the scenes. What a great idea for the photoshoot backdrop!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Deena. Lauren said her backdrop was really inexpensive. I am going to try to get one this summer and some lights. OUR HOUSE IS SO DARK! I love that you take some of your pictures outside but the ones I take outside are always too bright and inside is too dark. Going to set up a mini studio with my substituting money and then I will be all set.
