Hello, girlsies!
With the new year comes new blogging opportunities and link-ups including today’s “TBB Asks” from the gals at The Blended Blog. These Q&A posts are fun for me to write and hopefully fun for you to read. Then, as always, would love for you to share your own answers to these questions in a blog post or comment below.
Accidentally clicked on publish when my right pinkie finger went spastic before my post was finished. Ugh.
TBB Asks 01.2018
1. Resolutions or no resolutions? Most years I have had the same resolutions, lose weight and get in shape. But since I have begun blogging, I concentrate more on setting seasonal goals. Here are the goals I have set for winter 2018. Embellished by a chalk-wielding 20 month old baby.
2. Love snow or no snow? L*O*V*E S*N*O*W!! Love it. So much that I have used snow and snow men in much of my holiday decorating so I can keep it up longer!! I give you my kitchen and den.
3. Name a new place you want to go this year. The beach. Preferably an all-inclusive resort for my 60th birthday celebration. Where I can show-off my newly slender and freshly fit figure.
4. Would you rather have a new hair cut or hair color? New cut. Stick pretty close to the same color, less the gray.
5. Name one special thing you want to do for yourself this year. Get back in shape. Have really over-enjoyed myself this Christmas. Want to get back to a regular gym routine, healthier eating, feeling better in my skin.
6. Least favorite thing about January. Bills from Christmas. Using this saving plan helped me have a little extra money this holiday but I still spent too much.
7. Most favorite thing about January. Clean slate. The feeling that anything is possible in the new year. A sense of hopefulness.
8. When do you take down your holiday decorations? Depends. Usually before I start back to work after the holidays. This year, I don’t have any sub jobs lined up yet and my oldest daughter Brennyn and granddaughter Cady are here visiting so the Christmas tree, stockings and garland are still up.
9. Do you diet in January? I start trying to eat better again. This holiday season, I really over-indulged. My girls leave on Tuesday and will start tracking Weight Watchers points as soon I get home from taking them to the airport.
10. What area of your home do you want to organize the most? Probably my closet. See my winter bucket list.
I really need to quit hanging on to some of the items in there! Because I am working less lately, I really don’t have the need for all of the tops and sweaters, skirts and dresses that I keep holding onto.
11. Favorite winter comfort food. Soup. I like soup in any weather, for any season. Going to be trying a new Weight Watcher’s soup recipe next week for “Tasty Tuesday”. Hope you’ll come back then for a taste. In the meantime, here are a couple of my favorite soup recipes, here and here and here.
12. Favorite guilty pleasure. Food-wise, probably ice cream. Usually enjoyed on Saturdays. Which, when I am eating better and trying to get in shape, is my indulgence day.
But why did I automatically think food for guilty pleasure? YIKES! Non-food related guilty pleasure…a massage and/or facial.
Your Turn
Sweet friends, how would you answer these questions? When you think of your favorite guilty pleasure, is it food related? Or am I the only one?
Be sure to run by The Blended Blog to check out some of the other blogs linking up for this edition of “TBB Asks”. Hope you will also come back on Wednesday to read my inaugural post for Natalie the Explorer’s “Wellness Wednesday” series. We will be sharing our health goals for 2018. There’s still time for you to get your list of goals together and join the fun. See you then!
Hugs and kisses,
Carrie
Oh yes all the soup. I love the penny saving idea. Going to check it out a little more and thanks for the tip.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
The penny saving is easy to do and the extra money came in REAL handy over the holidays!! Thank you for coming by. Happy new year.
Andrea Nine
You and your Mr. with your ice cream cones….so CUTE! I am backing up to 1/1 and doing your savings plan! Great idea! Wish I could send you some fluffy snow! Happy New Year pretty lady!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, how I wish you could send me some snow, too!! Yay for the penny savings plan. So easy and who doesn’t need extra money over the holidays.
Valerie Price
Oh my. I forgot it is your 60th this year. I knew I was going to be 58 but hadn’t thought that would mean you will be 60. Hopefully, TLA will work out and we will be together scrapbooking in Corsicana on your Happy Birthday. If PC wants you on that day, I will sacrifice:( Love you little big sister.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yikes…60th!!! How in the WORLD is that possible?? I truly don’t feel much older (most days) than I did 20 years ago. YIKES!!
PC won’t be in the country for my birthday so I am looking forward to TLA and scrapping with you. Thank you, baby sister. I love you and can’t wait to spend time with you this spring.
Cindi
Soup and ice cream. Yup! Couldn’t get any better than that!
Thanks so much for sharing.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You are so right. Soup and ice cream. Sounds like dinner to me.
Sarita
Those Ice cream pictures are the cutest. I want to and I need to track some points also… I think about joining weight watchers ever so often
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I really don’t follow WW too carefully but I try to be more mindful of what I am eating after the holidays. There is a number I just will not allow myself to go over on the scales!!
Tamara /My Retirement Project
Knowing what I do of you thus far through our various linkups (almost a year’s worth can you believe???), I hope you so end up booking that all inclusive because I think you’ll love it! Remember, ‘If not now, when?’ Words to live by as we get older. Hugs to you sweet Leslie!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, you are so right…if not now, when? PC and I had a all inclusive beach resort vacation right after my cervical spine surgery. That was four years ago and I am raring to go again. Recuperating didn’t slow me down much but I did worry a little about snorkeling with my fresh incision across my neck. And had to really slather on the SPF over that area because the skin was so sensitive. Hope to go this summer without having to endure surgery beforehand!

I really like the idea of setting actual, actionable goals instead of vague resolutions. I’m trying to do that this year and already feel like I’ve been more successful (you know, not stopping before I’ve even started, haha)!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thanks, sugar! I do much better when I have a number associated with my goals. Lift weights twice a week. Enjoy adult beverages only once a week on Saturdays…boo hoo!!

I love your savings tip. The Hubs and I used to not buy gifts for anyone over the age of 18 (long story), but now that our kids are all over the age of 18, I want to start buying gifts again. That savings sheet is the perfect way to do it and stay in budget.
I also like that you’re a list/goal person. So is The Hubs. Every year, he makes a new list of goals, and at the beginning of the new year we see how many we accomplished. And, believe it or not, we’ve finished most of them. It’s my arbitrary “Hey, let’s do this…” that gets left behind. LOL
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Your arbitrary is the perfect complement to your hubs list making! My PC and I are both planners but in different ways so we kind of complement each other, too. Paul is just very careful and cautious most of the time and I am an Aries – a ram(rod).
Hope you will try the penny savings for next Christmas. It really did help me out this year. I still overspent…even after promising to only spend $50 on my daughters. I just couldn’t control myself. Someday, maybe. I bought them small kitchen appliances to make their lives easier. Not exactly frivolous gifts, I guess. Love my girls and would do about anything to help them out in the kitchen (or anywhere else!).

I hate the cold in January AND all of the bills from Christmas… plus, we’ve had at least one thing break lately around here every week since Christmas. Grr! I just love soups and using my slow cooker this time of year. I made Andrea’s Stout Beef Stew tonight and it was SO good!!!!! I have been trying to drink more water this month and next month I’ll find something else to do… want to do something healthy every month in 2018!

Wow, I hope the things that have broken at your house were fixable or replaced without having to spend a whole lot of money. I am still battling with my oven. It turns itself off midway through cooking. Not every single time. That would make it easier to get a replacement. It only shuts off about a third of the time. So frustrating.
Glad you are using your slow cooker. You know how I love mine! Haven’t heard of stout beef stew. I am sure PC would love it. Found a recipe from Genius Kitchen for stout stew and pinned it. Will have to try it.
