Hello, dear ones!
Joining Erin at Perfectly Port Family for this year’s first installment of her 10 on the 10th link-up series. Today we a sharing random facts about ourselves. I had this post penciled in on my agenda for today but also had my Wellness Wednesday post scheduled. So this is one of those rare 2 post days!! And one of my wellness goals is to be unplugged by 9:00 pm so I am going to have to type fast girls, as it is already 8:48!
10 Random Facts About Me
- I am shy. Can put on a good front but deep down inside it is difficult for me to be in social situations. When I was a teenager, my first job was Shoney’s waitress. Used to give all of my tables away because I was so scared to take the customer’s orders. Didn’t turn out to be a terribly profitable endeavor.
- Even though I am shy, I hosted a televised reading program for children for 10 years. “Come Read With Me” aired from 1994-2004 in the El Paso, Texas-Juarez, Mexico-Las Cruces, New Mexico area. I was scared every single episode but managed to go straight through each one from start to finish without any editing!
- My favorite number is 3. When I was looking into building my first home, I was very particular about its potential address. Finally found a suitable lot with the address 4633. My birthday, April 6 and my favorite number, 3. And what’s better than one 3? Two 3s!
- I lived in the Republic of Panama for 6 years. I was an Army wife at the time. Haven’t been back since we left in 1988. Someday I would like to return with my daughters as they both lived there as little ones.
- My PC and I met on Match.com. He contacted me and I was blown away. How could such a cutie pie be interested in meeting me?? Our first date was at Applebee’s on a Thursday evening and we pretty well dated from that night on. For five years. Until we both got over our fear of (re-)marriage and jumped the broom.
- As a little girl, I pretended to be a run-away slave boy. No explanation for that. Well, except that as an adult, a counselor once suggested that I felt a connection to people who had been oppressed. Hmmm. Might also explain my interest in Anne Frank.
- I had a wreck on the day I got my driver’s license. Yup. Went straight from the DMV to drop off some old newspapers in a recycling bin at a neighborhood church. My mom directed me to back our family station wagon up to the bin, which was really an metal shed. Instead of braking as I approached the building, I hit the gas and the building, flattening it!
- Everywhere I go, I look for change on the ground. And when I find a penny, dime or nickel (quarters don’t come along very often), I put the coin in my left shoe for good luck. I also leave the tags on everything. Well, that isn’t completely accurate. I remove the tags in some cases but leave those little plastic tag holders. Yeah, I don’t get it either.
- If I drive through a yellow traffic light, I kiss my right hand and then tap the interior roof of my car or the car I am riding in. My youngest daughter does this, too. Must be a genetic thing.
- I am the only librarian to be chosen Elementary Teacher of the Year for the El Paso Independent School District in the district’s history. That same year, I was district employee of the month, teacher of the year for the campus where I worked as a librarian and competed for Region 19 (our state educational region) teacher of the year. Loved being a librarian. Loved being among books and babies. Miss it to this day.
Bless your hearts, was that TMI? Are you still out there? Hello, anybody???

What a great post!!! All of these things are so interesting, fun, and revealing about who you are. I can’t believe you came up with this list so fast.
The house numbers were definitely a good sign… I’d have never pegged you for shy based on how open and welcoming you are in line; but then I completely see that you aren’t forced to do that “in person.” Love your little habit shares, the story of you and pc, and your professional achievements….it all fits and underscores what a lovely person you are. Thanks for sharing this!

Oh, Em!!! What a sweet message. Tucking it away for keeps. Thank you so much.
Hope you will consider joining for one or all of the 10 on the 10th posts. They are easy and fun to do. I have all of the prompts for the link-ups if you are interested. Would love to get to know a little more about you in addition to what I already know about your creative Christmas decorating and sewing skills!
About the shyness thing…I think I’ve just learned how to push myself beyond my comfort level when need be. Another librarian blogger I follow shared that she, too, is shy but that when she gives presentations or lectures, she feels that she is acting. I always felt like I was on stage most of the day at work. Which is fun but difficult to keep up with 8 hours at a time.
Em
*ON line. (Sorry)
Leslie Roberts Clingan
No worries!! I knew what you meant. Big hugs.
Donna
Leslie, nah, not too much information! I read these posts on blogs and can’t come up with ten things about me that anyone would be interested in. Doesn’t everyone look for change on the ground? It all adds up…ha! You were a topnotch librarian! Well done! xoxo
Dara
These facts made me smile. I am shy too, I’d never be a good waitress! How scary about your crash on your first day having your license!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hello new friend! So glad to have you come by and to leave a comment, too!! Will return the favor and stop by your blog. I bet a large number of bloggers are introverts and use blogging as a more comfortable way to express themselves and to be more outgoing. I have given a number of large group presentations and would get scared to death every time. But I always survived!!
Hope you will come back again. Have a restful weekend.
Lysha
WOW! This is such an interesting list. I have seen people do the yellow light thing. I’m pretty shy myself.
Erin Port
Oh my goodness, I loved learning about you and you made me chuckle. Love that! Thanks for linking up. I am going to think of you the next time I drive thru a yellow light! xoxo ERIN
Leslie Roberts Clingan
We do that whole ‘kiss thing’ through a yellow light for good luck…to keep from getting hit. Never occurred to me that maybe we should just stop and not proceed through the yellow light! Ha!!!
Glad to make you chuckle. So thankful for this fun link-up. XO
Katie
Leslie that awesome that you hosted a television show!! Sorry about your wreck! But hey, you have a license! That’s more than I can say for my sorry self. And I think I knew you two lovebirds met on Match. you are a braver woman than I.
Daenel T.
I totally get the shy thing. People ask me how I can be a librarian, teach classes, and interact on social media. Short answer: when I librarian or teach, I feel like I’m acting and when I’m on the computer, I can get up and walk away when I need to de-stress.
That’s so cool that you were on TV. We lived in El Paso waaaaaaay back in the late 70s.
Amber
The TV show fact is so cool!! My husband was on an episode of a local hunting and fishing show once, so I would tell people I was married to a TV star. Now I can say I know two stars. 😉
We are sisters in picking up change!! It’s free money!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
While I was still on TV, I had an unusual fan base among older men! Ha! And little kids. It was fun being recognized at Wal-mart.
Thanks for stopping by.
Lorena Manso
I didn’t know the story of your driver’s license!! lol! I’m glad you didn’t let that discourage you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
HEY YOU!! Thanks for coming by. And for leaving a comment. Yay!! Yes, that first wreck on the day I got my license was the first in a long line of wrecks. And probably the cheapest wreck, too. I think that’s why I am nervous driving. I know what damage I can do. That being said, hope you won’t be even more scared to get in the car with me. We need to get together soon. XO
